Yes, November 2016 via Ledbury. I believe Ray Churchill was on 44871 (lead locomotive), but happy to be corrected. We also carried a pheasant on the buffer beam for much of the trip. Think it ended up in Southall.

Quite simply the cost of diesel v the cost of coal makes the economics of this move stacked in favour of a diesel pilot. If this in anyway made the hire more viable for the SVR then even better.

There is every point in having a diesel there, it means the journey can be completed without the need for a water stop, the two locos only need the one path to get them home. No loco, unless the rods are removed, will be hauled on the main line...
