Thanks. What is a "road rail interchange"? A park and ride?

Isn't it where P/Way put their road/rail equipment on and off the line?

Its the area where guest locos arriving by road vehicles are unloaded onto SR metals. It was on the right as you approached Norden Gates crossing, before you crossed the line (ie on the Swanage side of the approach road).. The new one will be diagonally opposite, on the left hand (Wareham) side just after the crossing.

My view is that the description park and ride is far more apposite than 'level crossing'.

As Herston Halt says, what will be referred to as the Road Rail Interchange is where rail vehicles are loaded and unloaded from road vehicles. The dig for the new RRI is now in full swing, with 10 trainloads of spoil taken up to Embankment 4 (each trainload comprising 3 Sea Urchins) today, following yesterday's 8 trainloads; estimated timescale for the digging works is 2 weeks.

Thank you. So is the RRI part of the Wareham Project (and if so, why?) or is it coincidental?

Because the existing RRI at Norden will be blocked by the new barriers for the new Level Crossing at Norden.

The Level Crossing is required for Wareham trains to proceed north of Norden - a present, trains are flagged by hand accross the road

Are there any plans for Wareham yet?
1 Will the up bay be re-opened? A junction box has recently been helpfully plonked on the trackbed, complete with new steps down to it.
2 Will the signalbox be taken over by SR or, demolished, as Wool has been?
3 Will their be a buffet at Wareham? If there is no space in the buildings, a coach could be placed in the bay.
4 Will the water tank at the west end of the down platform be rebuilt, as a water supply for a reinstated column for locos?
5 Will the sidings in the old goods yard be used for stabling stock?

1 I beleive trackbed resverved but no plans to re-open
2 Signalbox already leased to SR, I Believe
    3 Don't know
    4 No
5 No - only the down sidings used to turnround DMU (so stabled there between arriving and departing)

To expand on 5 - I beleive that DMU will travel up the down line from Worgret, crossover into the up platform at Wareham, depart in the up direction and crossover to the down line and into the down sidings, stable, then depart from the down sidings into the down platform and back down the down line to Worgret and Swanage.

The DMU will not be able to access the downsidings until after the new footbridge is built and the footpath closed. In the mean time if the service starts before the bridge is built they will terminate/start in the down platform

Unusual. Why is the DMU different from the regular EMU's, that use the crossing every half an hour?

I beleive it may be to do with the new up to down crossover which enables access to the down sidings and as it is close to the crossing cannot be commissioned until the crossing is closed

Its because the shunt signals into/out of sidings are not interlocked with the warning lights on the footpath.
