That saddens me, at a time when it is obvious that the NYMR needs every penny it can get; my own solution has been to make my bequest to the LNERCA which ought to be to the ultimate benefit of the NYMR, but as they no longer seem to aspire to...

I agree with all that you say, but whilst the person you are answering may be a lawyer I'm afraid that he seems to think mostly like an accountant, so don't get your hopes up for a more enlightened approach on his part...... It's the reason...

All of which takes us back round to the need to focus on what membership is there for, and good change management where a strong pre-existing culture exists that is to be changed. In the context of the L&BRT, for example, that means respecting...

Has been for years - which is why I mentioned it! That surely means it must be up to spec in terms of its boiler and mechanical fitness and also partial fitting of electronics, so if there was a perceived need for it I don't see any problems...

The K1 was supposed to have been up and running at Fort William by now, I think, but there has been no news of how it has progressed since March (at least that I've seen) Mention has been made of S15s as a possibility - 825 is qualified for...

But as you carry fewer and fewer people, you end up spreading your fixed costs onto a smaller and smaller number of shoulders. The reductio ad absurdum of your approach might be to find a single person willing to pay £8m for a single return...

Or maybe put a couple of Mk1s on the rear of the diner, and have it in the timetable as a "restricted capacity" service, so that there's an option for non-diners who might not want to risk a long gap between trains.

I'm making no assumption about specific fare levels. My observation is from a completely different place, which is that I think the numbers of people visiting are a key metric, and that there is a fundamental question about the absolute numbers...

Did the NYMR ever explore whether a Gift Aid, “Grosmont - Pickering only” fare was available in addition to the Whitby -Pickering? You’ve made much play on the HMRC deeming that the price had to include viewing the “whole” work of the charity,...

The question then must be whether it was ever necessary to include the stated clause in the charitable objectives? Or, if the intention was to include operations further afield - e.g. to Battersby or Middlesboro - it could it not have been...

Tax law operates in its own universe, so I see little hope in that! The language used has been that of the “entire operation”, not “control”. I struggle with the interpretation, but tend to see that as being another example of where the nature...

I'm sorry, but this reply really does demonstrate the one-dimensional thinking hat pervades the NYMR management. They know the buzzwordsw about "premium services" but haven't a clue about how to provide them! Grosmont to Whitby is in demand and...

Not really relevant to this thread, though - it makes no mention of the Austerity! There once was an oil-fired Austerity at the KWVR, although I'm not sure how successful it was, or what type of oil it burned. It's just a guess, but I assume...
