The numberplate flatters to deceive. I'm sure that 7027 has never touch SDR metals, and that the loco is 4920 Dumbleton Hall! Nor is it directly ex-scrapyard. It was restored and had 10 years or so of running (PDSR and WSR I think) before being parked up because it is too big for the SDR's needs.

I am pretty sure 7027 spent some time at SDR post Tyseley although not sure why or under what ownership?

This must make it the only Hall with bent steam pipes, then! AFAIK, Only Stars, Castles & Kings had these and I'll bet a King sized Mars Bar it aint a Star or a King.

My mistake, I hadn't noticed the cylinders. But the boiler looks too small for a Castle.

Just a thought - the frames will be under quite a strain without the bogie to support the weight of the cylinders. Why was the bogie removed?

Looks as if an awful lot of stuff has been stripped out though, motion, quite possibly superheater and much else. I bet there's an awful lot less weight there than there would be in service, plus there are, of course, no dynamic loads. My guess is that the forces invoked in sitting there rotting are pretty trivial compared to those experienced in service.

Having been stripped of many parts, they obviously found a more suitable chimney at some point. It looks like it borrowed a chimney whilst at the SDR in an effort to make it look presentable.

Hopefully all the parts (or at least the useful ones) that have been removed are stored in a better environment for further use one day, out of the ravages of the weather.

All the parts for the Castle are in the container at the end of Crewe HC. Next to the tender.

This is the next photo in the series I linked to earlier

I assume that the two tender bodies are the Collett one it came with and the Hawksworth example I recall had been fabricated for her.

Very sad to see- especially with no *known* plans for it.

Isn't there a Standard 1 up there that was last used on 2873? I seem to remember reading something of the sort, or is that somewhere else? That could be one of them. I'm not good on boilers, but *if* the two narrow box ones are GWR, and they look to have similar layout, then the one in British racing ginger to the right *could* be a Std 1 as it has a part sloping grate, and the one lying on its side with a sloping grate and bits missing *might* be a Std 2 or Std 4 I suppose. No idea what the big wide firebox might be.
