At the risk of life long emnity, in my trade we use the term debugged when we've removed problems in our original work. Would, therefore, the re-introduction of design features historically deemed problematic be re-bugging?

But software doesn't have bugs, it has features! Perhaps "re-featuring" might be better;)

Uninstalling? We have the Un Problem again but this seems to be universally accepted when talking about software. So you could say 'we propose to uninstall Jarvis 2.1' (I am wearing my coat - it is unknown whether the latest Bulleid Service Pack is still available for download).

Its funny actually ( he said, drifting even further off topic if I can be forgiven), but I've been struggling with the problems of version control in a study I'm doing of GW tenders. Looking at some apparently contradictory sources I'm beginning to think that certain batches may have been built to one GA drawing, but maintenance done to a later one (seems reasonable). However the construction register doesn't mention this, so its how to find out if its still recorded anywhere... With the locomotives Swindon seems to have done their version control by date and colour (master drawings saying "altered in red (or whatever), [date given]"...

You could even get two for the price of one here, Bulldog 3425 with a No 2 boiler (spare prairie anywhere?) and Duke 3258 "The Lizard" (new frames, wheels cylinders and motion etc.).

Granted there probably wouldn't be anything of the original 3258 but if they wanted the Earl reassembled all the new bits would make a nice replica of an early curved frame Bulldog.

On 9017 you can still see where the over firebox circular glasses were blocked off in the 1920s. Its not the original narrow cab, but its certainly an ex Duke cab. At a guess it dates to 1912 when the first belpaire boiler went on 3258.

That idea gets discussed almost every year on the Bluebell, normally round about April 1st ...

Maybe you should consider a Bulldog as a new build project after the Atlantic[grin]... It ought to be one of the easier extinct class rebuilds to research since just about every component exists on other classes, and you wouldn't even need to build a tender... And the extra boiler capacity/pressure over 9017 ought to be useful. I wonder if they would have worked over the Reading/Redhill/Tonbridge line before Holcroft's 43s took over the duty? That would be a nice Southern connection.
