Was this loco ever a success after Thompson rebuilt it?

    How is success measured?
Did it haul heavier loads with no increase in coal & water consumption?
Was it able to operate for longer periods between servicing?
Was it faster or was acceleration improved?

What in fact was Thompson's intention with rebuilding the loco?

https://www.national-preservation.c...mpson-discussion-analysis-2012-present.35938/ Some nice afternoon reading for you. Just about every facet of Thompson's rebuilds is dealt with therein. Unfortunately you risk starting the argument again with your question.

No. Ruined Doncaster's pride and joy and never forgiven. Was felt to be malicious Gresley had no choice but to scrap the awful Raven Pacific's.
