    As steam now comes off at Gloucester on the return - presumably to get Braunton to SPM for the Torbays - there seems little chance of it not being yet another diesel assisted train.

    Steam Dreams has confirmed that the train will have a diesel all day at the back and at the front from Gloucester coming back.

    Again, I feel sorry for the steam fans on board. Was the tour originally booked for steam haulage out and back from Paddington. If so that is a massive chunk removed. Not good. Not good at all.

    It was always coming off at Glos but taking the diesel seems to be what happens now with the SD train set.

    Most steam trips are timed at 60mph max, irrespective of the loco (or the braking). A 75mph max is only used if this is necessary to squeeze in a path.

    I've never heard of speed restricted because of vacuum brakes before, a lot of trains over the WCML are timed at 75mph
