The Erzgebirge Express - Saxon Steam and Snow February 2017

I was part of a large Inside Track Railway Holidays party that explored the railways and other sites of Saxony in mid-February 2017. The aim was Steam and Snow and we certainly got both!

Loco 99 1590-1 takes water at Steinbach on the Preßnitztalbahn, plus a couple on its journey (at dusk) to Jöhstadt.

That looks like a really great trip. I've been there several times, but not in winter - yet!

52 5448 is one of the few 52's which received a general repair without being rebuilt as 52.8, although they did receive the 52.8 boiler; hence the similarity to the 52.8's which survive in quantity in preservation. The former are known as 52GR (52-Generalreparatur).
