34081 - 92 Squadron

Glad you enjoyed '81 and thanks for the comment. She's had a damn good workout at both SVR and Swanage. 400 tons up a 1 in 100 at the former and 350 tons up a 1 in 78 at the latter certainly gave her some work to do. A few little niggles have been revealed but nothing major and once she's back at home base, our fitters can get to grips sorting them out in time for Easter.

 

A couple of photos (and a video - 34081 starts about half way through) of 34081 at Strictly Bulleid. Didn't have overly much luck photographing '81, but these two came out ok.

Out of curiousity, I noticed both in person and in other videos posted on here that the drivers of 34081 were opening and shutting the regulator quite a bit when she was accelerating from a slow pace (see the Harmans Cross clips in the video), but I never noticed it with any other Bulleid Pacific at Strictly Bulleid. Was there a reason for this? Thanks in advance!

Great photos James. I'm looking forward to seeing 34081 at the MHR in few months time. Just a shame 34007/67/70/72 haven't run in Malachite green with British Railway on the tender. A Bulleid Unrebuilt light Pacific in Malachite green looks far better than a Light Pacific in BR green. Maybe that's why 34081 stands out from all the other Light Pacific's in my opinion.

Had a great time with the 92 squadron team! Found a great pub on the Friday night and BBQ with Mike and John on the Saturday night! Looking forward to the mid hants gala where I'll see her next!

 

I understand it was a tad chilly up at the campsite. Thanks for inviting he team but a fair few of us preferred the warmth of the Red Lion.

She does look the dogs danglies though.

Seems and odd way to get to Wansford from Swanage though.

 

Am guessing came A34/ A43 / A45? Was just past Northampton about 06:45

Phoned Alleleys and they said she overnighted in the Watford area but that could have been duff gen of course.
Wouldn't surprise me to learn that they'd decided to miss the M25 completely though.

 

Quick question Ian - is 92 Squadron the "resident large locomotive" for the purposes of NVR steam driver experiences (well, the ones later in the year, I know there are a lot using visiting locos coming up soon)?
