I am pleased to announce that the Class 47 Preservation Project's locomotive 47771 has today left the Colne Valley Railway in Essex bound for Arlington Fleet Services at Eastleigh.

Once there work will start on its restoration to working order.

It is intended that when restored 47771 will relocate to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

Anyone who wishes to support the Project and its work, including purchasing shares should contact them at class47preservation@yahoo.co.uk

Its good to hear there is positive progress with a old RES loco, surprisingly low amount of them made it into pres, i think the last time i saw 771 was at Plymouth, thats how long ago that was

You dont happen to know the date that was by any chance and what train it was working. As a Class 47 Preservation Project shareholder I have a list of all the known workings. Always keen to add to a growing list.

    Best wishes

    Simon

Most definitely. It has been a while in the planning, but its great it has all come together. Looking forward to the day when 771 is a working locomotive once again.

Hello there, although I'm 50 miles away from my records so I am unable to tell you the date but it was the last year before the skips arrived in numbers so it'll be 2000? It was working that Bristol to Plymouth empty parcels that turned up into PLY at 1400-1500 and then reversed and pushed back into the parcels bay, I do appreciate that's a little vague but without my book that's the best I can do soz

A working you probably have noted but my only sighting of this loco as 47771was on 22/4/1990 when it passed Euxton working the Shieldmuir - Bristol Mails.

However in its other guises :

47503 : 29/01/83 Passing Ince on a Euston - Preston service diverted via Lostock Junction

The working from 29/1/83 is a new one to the list. Are you sure about the other one being 22/4/1990. It was still 47503 at the time working a lot of trans-pennine stuff.

Seen in loco roads at Southampton Maritime Container Terminal this morning, or did I mistake the number.

    Cheers, Neil

Are you collecting a log of 47503/47771's runs in BR service? If so, on 11th August 1990, when still running as 47503 The Geordie, it worked the 07.25 Manchester-Eastbourne, I photographed it between Plumpton and Cooksbridge. According to my notes, it was running about half an hour late due to the need to remove two defective coaches (Not sure where or why or how I found out the reason for its lateness.) It would have presumably worked the 13.55 return from Eastbourne although I didn't stay around to take a second picture of it.

Many thanks for that. It is a new one to the list so delighted.

If anyone else has details of 47771's workings in any of iys guises I would love to hear from you.

Glad to be of help, Simon. If you're trying to build a collection of photos of your loco in its various guises and this rare visit to East Sussex is of interest, please send me a PM.

47771 worked 1M06 14:25 Swansea - London Mail on 23rd July 1999. I have a shot of this taken at South Moreton. If you would like a copy, I can scan it when I get the time.
