Yes I agree, well done to them. I was lineside at the weekend and thought it was looking good considering the amount of growth. I had no problem finding good positions.

There are quite a few places where the growth is outside the fence, therefore not the WSR's property.

The pictures on WSR.org.uk bear witness to this. :)

It does'nt feel like that from the footplate and lot of effort goes into clearing certain stretches whilst others are quite open by their very nature. That gives some contrast and it could be argued that the paying passenger experience is perhaps of more relevance to the lines viability than the exacting, yet resource poor requirements of particular photographers.

It was a reference to statement once put out by a railway company that said "The delay was due to the wrong kind of snow on the line" that became ridiculed in the press. Contrary to popular belief sheep can taught to stay in one area which is known as hefting.

Too right. FS in September is going to be very difficult to photograph unless you have a pass.

Don't know about the right kind of sheep but when I was involved in the Welsh narrow gauge, the sheep invariably ran between the rails in front of the train. On the standard gauge in Yorkshire, the sheep always run in the cess. I don't know whether this is down to the different breeds of Welsh and Yorkshire sheep or the difference between narrow gauge and standard gauge sheep.

  15. I disagree - there are a great many locations on public land from which to photograph WSR trains. I've been without a WSR lineside pass for two years now and if anything I've enjoyed finding new locations - as have a number of others who do not feel the need to go lineside.

Yes, there are a few, Steve, I agree. What I mean is that those few will be teeming with Joe Public. I am also assuming that driving to places like Walnut Tree, Nornvins, Churchlands Bridge, Kentsford Crossing, Ker Moor, etc is going to be very difficult. I would be more confident of obtaining a good photo of FS with a line side pass. Time will tell.

Very true. I just needs some effort and a bit of imagination. There are literally hundreds of places you can take good, and more important, original pictures. Life is not all about the classic threequarter front view!

  18. You make some good points there, Colin. Finding somewhere to park could be the first headache! Maybe pics without Joe P will be difficult to come by. But then again, Joe P will be a major part of the story. Hope you get some pics you like, with or without Mr P.

Hi, Steve. It's not that I don't want JP in any pics. I have a ticket for Monday and there may be one or two other people around as well. The problem will be, when trying for photos on Saturday and Sunday, will there be space in the gallery at places like Nornvis Bridge. It gets crowded on a gala day and will be heaving for FS. The advantage of having a LSP I have many other options at the Lineside.

I'll send you the results as usual.
