[Oct 20, 2017] CVR25 Anniversary Gala (Churnet Valley Railway)

Join us for a celebration of the Churnet Valley Railway which was officially created on 30th October 1992 as Goldenlaunch PLC. Over the weekend of 20/21/22 October 2017 the line will hold its own 25th Birthday Party with a selection of locomotives operating a variety of services along both the Churnet Valley and Cauldon Lowe lines.

CATERING

• The Tearooms at Froghall will be serving freshly prepared food and drink all weekend. Arrive early and enjoy an Engineman’ breakfast to start of your day!
• Consall station will be offering light refreshments from their restored tea trolley on the platform throughout the weekend.
• The Goods Shed Tearooms at Cheddleton will be serving hot & cold snacks to eat in or takeaway. This will be supplemented by our Breakfast BBQ on the station platform.

Without even trying. Hopefully guest no 2 will also prove to be a popular and noisy engine.

 

I think that's my first visit to the CVR sorted. Massive fan of Manors up any gradient, so this should be exceptional.

 

My first-ever YouTube posting was Ditcheat Manor leaving Consall back in 2006. Wobbly and blurry but a good noise.

In case anyone is struggling to get to the website;


The second guest loco for the gala will be 4277 from the Dartmouth Steam Railway at Paignton, this will be the first time that 4277 has left Paignton since they bought the loco in 2008

The loco will arrive on the CVR at the beginning of October and will leave the railway after its boiler certificate expires on the 10th of February 2018.

Upon arrival 4277 will be repainted into BR black with the large early emblem.

During its stay the loco will be used at the CVR 25 gala, Santa specials, Winter warmers to Ipstones and photo charters.

A highlight at the gala will be 4277 & 7820 doubling heading on 10 coaches up the 5 miles of 1 in 45/ 1 in 59 to Ipstones.

 

Details of the "Staffordshire Knotty Lunch" train are now on the website and tickets are available to buy online;

The ticket price includes all day travel on any service before or after the lunch train.

The "Knotty Lunch" is scheduled to be hauled by visiting locomotive No. 4277, this service will be the first public train that 4277 will haul to Ipstones and will be strengthened to 7 coaches to including the dining coaches.

 

4277 has now arrived and successfully completed its loaded test run yesterday. She will go into the shed for painting to commence on Saturday as she will be making her first appearance on the Friday of the gala in BR Black with the early crest.

7820 Dinmore is due to arrive in Tuesday the 17th of October.

Not at the gala though, timetable is just fine as it is. We don't want goods trains getting in the way!

 

Struggling to work out how the locos are allocated as they appear to change at Ipstones - are we building a shed up there?

 

The way I read the timetable it looks like most (or even all) loco changes are at Cheddleton?

Loco changes are indeed taking place mainly at Cheddleton with some at Froghall.

To increase our passenger capacity we have hired 2 x MK1 TSO's from the North Norfolk railway for the winter, the first is due to arrive today and the second tomorrow.
