Yeah well, actually all the BR standards are plug ugly, especially the smaller ones. Its just that people get used to stuff and what you're familiar with seems OK. So I reckon he's got the Riddles style off pretty well. When I was drawing my Riddlesized 1500 I was amazed by how much the looks went off when I replaced the GWR bunker with the LMS/BR styled one.

Ahem! I beg to differ! I wouldn't say the Standards are plug ugly, they're just a bit more functional maybe? The enginemans engine shall we say? :)

No, this is the engineman's engine...

It was all downhill from there, and getting uglier to boot.

Bit modern that Tom, and the wheels are too big for shunting...

If you want an engine that's a joy to crew and which knows exactly how to deal with troublesome trucks...

On that loco, where they went wrong involves where the water tanks are!
Ashing it out is not one of life's pleasures (and is almost impossibly agonizing without a pit).

Because Josiah Evans worked for a colliery and foundry business and not for a railway company though his design was influenced by the LNWR. Haddock D was built in 1874. The design was successful, the engine is very impressive the more so when the background of the design and construction is considered. It was a landmark design- but it took decades for the mainline companies to catch up.

    With saddle tanks.

Edit - having said that, the view out of Bellerophon must be excellent - perhaps with modern ash disposal facilities it would be better with the well tank.

Do you do photoshop requests? Could you do an Ivatt 4MT with the running plates dropped a foot or so, so they are level with the bottom of the cab? Think that would improve the looks drastically

    Just another thought.

Would they have looked more like the Bagnall 'Brookfield' that is at mangapps?
