The only issue I have with these Scotsman programmes are that Marchington ownership is always glossed over quite quickly. It was the same with the BBC programme in 2013, albeit it was only one short episode.

I know the loco didn't do anything major of note in that time but was still an interesting, if sad phase of the loco's life both for the loco and behind the scenes.

What's also sad is that after the announcement yesterday of the passing of Sir William McAlpine, it means all three previous owners have now sadly passed away in the last few years.

I thought Pete Waterman was involved in Flying Scotsman ownership I believe - and he is still alive !

I was referring to the 3 outright owners. Pete Waterman was indeed involved in owning the loco but Sir William still owned the other half.

Although short, it was still an eventful part of the loco's history.

What's mentioned in that article is there dosnt seem to be a memorial to Alan Pegler, it's not just 4472/600103 he did so much for, he did a fair old bit to get the Ffestioniog off the ground, Captain Bill Smith had a 33 named after him, why didn't Mr Peglar get something similar?

As a dedicated steam man do you think he would want an oil box named after him?

Possibly not! ;) But just saying for someone who did so much, there dosn't seem to be as much recognition for what he did.

Personally I think that the new double Fairlie at Fr would of been a fitting tribute name wise...

That incendiary comment is somewhat insulting to Captain Bill Smith and indeed any other notable person that has been celebrated or remembered by a non-steam loco being named after them.

I wasn't talking about Capt Smith or anyone but Alan Pegler who if you read some of the things he said probably would not want such a thing named after him. Naming the new Ffestiniog loco is very appropriate however

Probably because the preservationist's name was Pegler, with an 'e'?

Lovely article on Alan Pegler. I too like the idea of naming the new Fairlie after him as a nice tribute to him and his part in the success of the Ffestiniog.

Some more news on the loco as she is about to enter another new domain, the world of video game consoles.

The loco will be featured in the upcoming Forza Horizon 4 video game for Xbox One as part of one of its Showcase events (a race featuring Flying Scotsman vs an Arial Nomad off road buggy by the look of it). The loco also appears to be in Apple Green without smoke deflectors and carrying a 1929 style Flying Scotsman headboard from the promotional picture I've seen.

But not mine, and I'm a bit of a spelling nazi in the real world. It's an honest mistake. Now if it had been done deliberately I would agree, but it wasn't. Grow up.

That’s a bit extreme - spelling a name wrong doesn’t necessarily equal disrespect. Especially when he was advocating more of a memorial to Mr Pegler!
