Barnshaws at Oldbury (W. Midlands) and Manchester can roll taper barrels.
All the companies mentioned can roll a barrel of equal taper about the centerline. None can roll a barrel of unequal taper as fitted to 80072. The bottom of the taper barrel on the 80XXXs and the boiler centreline are parallel. Again, because of company confidentiality I cannot say how 80072's taper barrel was made. However, the new taper barrel for 80097 is being rolled as an equal taper, but the length of the barrel will be longer than required. Then both the front and back of the barrel will be cut at 90 degrees to the bottom of the taper, thus giving the correct length and unequal taper profile.

#-o ...read-up, if you think about it, the profiled development can be rolled as an equal taper, the allowance being made at the ends of it, in the development, to be used as a flat-bottom taper section.....use the professionals!

Sounds like a fcuker of a job. Lots of head scratching required no doubt!.

As a point of interest, 'Barnshaws' and 'Angle-ring' have family connections.

'WYCO Tube' just down the road from Deepdales made mine. But it was only tiddler, parallel and for £326 not worth the aggro of rolling it and getting it welded myself.

I don't think so! Think about it. The bottom of the barrel should be effectively horizontal but that's not what you've said. The only difference between a symmetrically coned barrel and an assymetrically coned one is the development of the plate before rolling.

For those of a mathematical bent, its a truncated cone but not a frustrum of a cone, since according to http://chestofbooks.com/crafts/mechanic ... strum.html , a frustrum of a cone is the part of a solid left by cutting off the top or segment by a plane parallel to the base.

On New Years Eve 2008, the boiler of Standard 4T 80072 was fitted with its ashpan and, having already been fitted with its smokebox, is now in the loco frames and awaiting completion...

\:D/ Not too long to go now!

How did it leave Didcot? Presumably on a wagon for the trip on the mainline?

But at least we all know it fits together now and like i said it does give some idea of what the finished article will look like minus the carriage body.

The above pic, also showing the pony truck from the barry 8F, which will be used to construct the bogie for the Patriot replica.

So you're converting a pony truck into a bogie. I presume you mean that the wheelset is being used.
The wheels are on a well wagon in Pentrefelin yard . It's a shame that a loco with what looks like a brand new set of tyres was dismantled. In ten years or so the 'County' mob will probably realise that its better to build a new boiler & 48518 might then be restored in its own right.

Surley though a set of 8F wheels with new tyres are going to be of value to another of our UK working 8Fs at some point? Has to be more cost effective to use an existing set than shell out for retyring another set?

...might even find a use on an 8F from "elsewhere".... :-#
