    There's an interesting table from the BR era here:

    https://www.steamindex.com/jile/jile43.htm#pap520 from which the Coronations show up somewhat worse than other class 7 / 8 locos in mileage between repairs.

    What is not covered there is the variation; i.e. the figures are average mileage between repairs, but not the variation.

    The discussion of that paper is where Cook made his comment that, directly contradictory to Bond, that mileage was the best basis for selecting a loco for repair.

    Well yes, I was obliquely making the point that dates when a particular class happened to be withdrawn after say about 1958 had more to do with happenstance than anything else.
