If I`m correct none of the V2 class locomotives were equipped with smoke deflectors (for some reason)

So, just for fun I thought it could be interesting to see how the appearance would change by using a photo and some time with microsoft paint. :)

I guess the most are disagree with me but, actually, I like the version with the german style Witte- deflectors;) but also the other one as well.

Not the Witte type, but what became 60813 was fitted with a type that looked like a shovel fitted around the chimney.

I do like a german smoke-deflector on the Gresley front end.
Now paint it black with red under the running plate and chuck a few more domes on it...

Wouldn’t a coal scuttle type one be more appropriate? ;):)

    Pickelhaube?
The German for tinhat is I think, stahlhelm, but that has connotations from 1920s Wiemar republic chaos

I was reading the book locomotives of the L.N.E.R part 2A currently and find it interesting to know that some of the V2 engines possible could have ended up with German type smoke deflectors like the A3`s .
Quote from the book " it was in June 1960 that Shedmaster at King`s Cross ,P.N.Towend suggested trials with the German type (Witte) smoke deflectors used with great success in many contries. After trials wth A3 no. 60049 in October, a favourable report was send from the Running Departement, with a recommendation that the German type smoke deflector should be fitted to all the A3`s and also considered for the A1`s, A2`s and double chimney V2`s".

    Knut:)

I never realised the A3s were fitted with Smoke Deflectors so late! But which A1s and A2s are they referring to - weren't the Peppercorns build with the larger deflectors as built?

And yet the DR Br23 was quite attractive. Both derived from the same pre-war prototypes, I believe.

Must disagree after having a cab ride from Saarbrueken to Saargemund in 1974; in many ways they reminded me of the Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 - ugly but powerful for many traffics that they worked. Very common as a P8 replacement in the Black Forest IIRC.

The reference is to the fitting of "trough type deflectors" - p.31.
