For the DB 23s from 1950, I'm left wondering why they designed a completely new tender for them when there were plenty of Wannen tenders available from the Class 52 Kriegsloks available, the locos being scrapped.

Another 2-6-2 with smoke deflectors was the Japanese Class C58. A lightweight design for secondary duties on 3ft 6in/ 1067mm gauge, it was much smaller than an LNER V2 but may be compared with the V4.

The DB 23 were built to run at the same speeds tender first as chimey first ,so a tender was designed to give better look-out and different bogies than usual.
