What I dont understand and perhaps could be explained is what is the 'cumulative' impact, so if - say 50008 did perhaps half a dozen trips over Monkey Bridge compared with 47840 doing it twice a day for six months?

From all the froth on wnxx not coming, but due to lack of an serviceable air braked half brake.

Perhaps I should have made it clear that the viewpoint of "9466 is owned by JJP so let it come" is not one that I hold! I have just seen it expressed elsewhere! I would have reasonable faith that the WSR had done due diligence to ensure it was safe to run 9466 and 2999 over their metals, but again, such is the way the WSR is viewed by certain people there would probably be others who would be more sceptical on that point!

The WSR posted about it on their Facebook, the dual braked BSK is out of service so they considered using a translator loco to run with the 50 but subsequently decided as they hadn’t done it before they weren’t confident in doing it.

The scepticism is due to the number of issues where the WSR appears to have made up or ignored its own rules as it goes along. Granted it would be especially serious to bend any of the rules relating to safety, but there has been at least one recent incident where the dear leader appears to have done exactly that.

Strange that it was coming , and would be translated by a 33.

Either way , why book something if you know
A , you have no brake for a dual braked set
B, translating is not a way you operate
C, the loco is too heavy to run in the first place,

If its being run as a blue route.
Why Run red locos on it ?

There's enough TSRs as it is atm.
    Without damaging the track more.

I can understand how a 33 can 'translate' as it has brake operating equipment but how do you do it with a BSO which doesnt have an exhauster or power to run one.

The BSO would have some sort of facility to accommodate air brakes ie it would be dual braked.

My understanding of this is that there is a dual braked set, but without a serviceable dual braked brake coach. It's not that the coach needs to translate the brake,it just has to be there to complete an air braked train. Caveat: this is only a guess - I have no direct knowledge of this particular set up.

Exactly that, we had two options, either operate a dual braked set in 'air mode' so we could us 50008 on its own, or with a 'translator' locomotive to change the air commands into vacuum commands for a train.

Every passenger train on our railway must have a brake van for the Guard, 9227 being out of traffic removes our ability to put together a complete rake that can operate with air.

In better news, the locomotive allocations should be available at some point tomorrow, so people can start planning!

With a red route steam loco as a regular performer and the Class 50 being invited, does this now mean that the DEPG Class 47 is now allowed to run on the line ?

Would likely be allowed though I think given current service levels and restrictions on steam, it's earning potential is higher at the NYMR at this stage.

    No, cracked cylinder head bolt.

    https://depg.org/2023/05/26/weekly-roundup-21-may-23/

Class 47 47077 ‘NORTH STAR’ – this loco has been suffering from some engine trouble and has been found to have a fractured cylinder head bolt that will need remedial work before the loco can return to service. The team at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway are investigating further and the DEPG will be sending spare parts to assist with the repair work. We will provide more details as soon as they become available.
