From the Great Western Trust collection this takes you back exactly 65 years to 18 March 1960 and the naming at Swindon Works of the last steam locomotive built for British Railways, No 92220 ‘Evening Star’:

 

The Grand 'Elf would be having a fit these days.

 

Typical Swindon - they gather to commemorate the construction of a modern locomotive and then make sure it isn’t in the picture, but instead one of their own antiques is!

From the railway point of view the end of reel 1 and start of reel 2 have views around the bridge.

Accompanying this is a shot of my own from the top of the north cantilever last year, courtesy of an event in support of Barnardo's Scotland.
I got to go up in the hoist thankfully, some things have changed for the better.
