It's going to be 5043 Earl of mount Edgcumbe as well Nathan by the look of it so it's the 1st time I will have had the Earl of mount Edgcumbe in the north as well I've only been on it before to Lincoln last October 12 2024 I think the last time 5043 came to York was before its last overhaul.

Does anybody know what traction will be on the trip to Scarborough tomorrow, given the weather?

depends on the fire risk status . any part of the journey in black then it wouldn't be steam . hopefully it is steam and we'll find out tomorrow

    Very chaotic these days.
Round my way we've just had a hosepipe ban, and now there's a yellow warning for flooding.

You can certainly still make a telephone booking. I always have and the folk in the office are always friendly and happy to process booking.

Doesn't make sense. If the diesel is on the front from Brum turning it on the Greenford Triangle will surely have Clun leading into Paddington!! Will have to check with the office again as when I booked last Friday, the 11th, I had a long chat with Alex who said the train was to have Clun on the front all day, going south via Oxford taking water in Hinksey Loop, then Didcot East curve onto the GWML. The diesel will lead from the triangle into Pad. When I booked the train was going up Filton, through Parkway, bypassing Gloucester and running via Cheltenham Spa on the return.

It's the rear Neil to Scarborough you will be behind the steamer coming back from scarborough as the whole train can't be turned.

Saw 5043 at York. Seems to have caught some vegetation judging by the tree on the handrail by the cab. Of interest when it left I could not see anyone in either cab of the 37, perhaps suggesting this really was just an true tail gunner today, with no assistance? Unless they were hiding

There was some assistance from stops, but otherwise 5043 noticeably audible. Object of the trip was a short, and a once fairly rare curve between Proof House and Landor Street Junctions.

Things may have moved on again...... I spoke with Alex yesterday ( Friday 18th July) who advised the train would be double headed with a diesel on the front of Clun Castle from Birmingham (hence the description on the VTL website - Diesel hauled ?). The diesel will run round the train to the rear in the Greenford area and then haul the train off the triangle to Paddington.
The rest of the tour will be steam hauled by Clun Castle .
Please can someone on the train today confirm with VTL, and post on here, the actual arrangements for this tour ?

I can say with some certainty that 5043 was doing everything at Little Fenton. Lovely sound track :D

Bit of assistance after Bootham but otherwise silent York-Scarborough.
