Looks like a nice gentle work out for the Scot that seems none the worse for its limited exposure over the past year or so.

It would certainly be helpful if RTC/West Coast can make it clear which future tours this set will be used on.
After a few years of only spending my railtour budget with Vintage and Saphos, I'd be more than happy to do a few RTC trips if I can be sure of what I'm going to get for my money!

I'm wondering the same as there's a lot more trips planned in the South than the North for the rest of the year. But time will tell.

I counted 6 FOs, a kitchen car, a buffet (Standard) and one Standard coach (99318) plus the barrier vehicles. So I don't reckon that what we saw fits a typical combination of customers down south. Not holding my breath that the rag, tag and bobtail Southall set is in for a change anytime soon but I would like to be wrong.

Yeah your likely right, it was a bit wishfull thinking on my end to have the Mk1s coming down South. Especially as really now the Carnforth fleet can be back in action, one of the air braked locos, like Tangmere or one of the Fives when they aren't needed in Scotland will likely come down South to assist Eddystone on the tours in the south still using the air braked Mk2s, until another Mk1 CDL rake comes available.

The Jacobite stock will be back soon, so some additional vacuum CDL stock there too (including standard vehicles).

It does however make sense to have the Vacuum braked stock near to Carnforth with Eddystone and a Black 5 able to work out of Southall.

This first picture is an absolute stunner and a reminder of what we have been missing over the past couple of years. Thanks for posting.

Regrettably, I think that while we will now be able to enjoy a lot more images like this from our Northern friends, I'm inclined to agree with @Big Al and @Alex Productions that down South, we're probably going to be stuck with coffins for a while. However, now one WCRC Mark 1 set has been fitted with CDL, hopefully we'll see a second set fitted and sent down to Southall before too long.

Are both of the Jacobite sets not air braked? Hence, unless there was provision of a vac braked mk1 set, the K1 would have been unable to work the Jacobite.

Talking to a well-known railway photographer on the platform at Gargrave on Friday night, he voiced the worry that WCR would be slow to continue the CDL fitting and would send the already fitted stock to Fort William in April, leaving us with Clangmere and MkII's again next summer. I hope he's wrong.

Yep, I think you are both right too - wishful thinking on my behalf!

I think we need to be positive, this time last year West Coast hadn't fitted any CDL and were instead up for a fight in court. They appear to have completed fitment to at least 12 vehicles since.

Six First Opens wouldn't be much use on The Jacobite.

My assumption is that a Mk. 1 set will be made ready for The Jacobite to run with 62005, and the existing pressure-ventilated Mk. 2 air-braked set will work with the 5MTs, as happened in previous seasons. Meanwhile, CDL fitment to the rest of the Mk. 1s will continue to form up at least a set for both Carnforth and Southall.

I wouldn’t take too much notice of lineside chatter, it’s usually wrong.
