There hasn't been any mention lately about the extension, so I would suggest that anybody wanting to see regular updates should visit the project's website www.corwenstation-new.co.uk

The team would welcome any new volunteers, who must become members to enable them to work on the railway.

    Bob.

I've always thought it should have been called the Corwen East extension. A bit like the GCR's Leicester North.

Unlike LeicesterNorth, a return to the site of the original station is still achievable. The missing bridge over Green Lane would need to be rebuilt, although several feet higher, due to the road level being raised some years ago. The other obstruction being the continued ownership of the station site by Ivor Williams trailers.
The majority of Llangollen working members favour this option. The cost of this work would be chickenfeed compared to the Great Central project.

The website is well presented and very informative . 2014 looks like being a good year for welsh standard gauge railways with the Gwili extending to Abergwili Junction ,which like Corwen was a junction with the LNWR.

I will also add that I to think the web site is very well put together and informative. Other railway projects should take note. These days you cannot get away with an amateurish site cobbled together by someone who does not really appreciate the finer points of presentation.

Thank you very much RalphW....this certainly is a labour of love and a thankless task as the Llangollen Railway hierarchy certainly doesn't acknowledge its existence, which is why I joined this forum to thank you and others who have seen the site and have made favourable comments.

Today's update is now on the website. This must be one of , if not the best, sites following progress of an extension.

The website is great - but if you had a Paypal online donation button I'm sure you'd raise funds. Who nowadays is going to be bothered to find their cheque book (can't think the last time I needed to write a cheque), write it, find and write an envelope, hunt for stamps, and go to a post box...? One click of a button online, and the money is sent! Also, people overseas (like me) won't have UK cheques to send anyway.

Its good to see someone so local to the project doing the website. A lot better than the usual thing of the webmaster being a couple of hundred miles away.

The extension is now pushing along at a decent rate. Even if the lads are laying track Eastwards!

Wouldn't be the first time we've laid track eastwards. We laid from Deeside Halt back through the tunnel to join up at the east end of the tunnel.

I followed about 6 artics carrying rail, down the A5 into Llangollen on Saturday evening, not going to Corwen I guess? (seemed like a lot of rail!)

Just scribling aloud - if we assume 60ft rails or 20yds at 110lb per yard thats 2200lb or nearly 2240lb = 1ton. Artics dont actually carry 44ton the load is probably more like 30t so 30 rails or 15 lengths of track - thats only 300yds per lorry. 6 lorries is 1800yds or just over a mile. I stand prepared to be challenged on my maths

I'm sure some would like to lay more track eastwards - towards Acrefair and Ruabon one day.

The majority of members involved in this project would prefer to keep heading west - into the original Corwen station. The possibility of acquiring parts of the original goods yard for workshop / siding space would be an important part of this, as there is no surplus space anywhere else on the line.

Even less chance now as the former River Inn Hotel looks set to become the new Llangollen Health Centre.
