Maybe 34070 could masquerade as 34053… that would be an interesting talking point.

The one loco I can't imagine 34053 masquerading as would be 34109...

Has happened before with 76079 masquerading as 76084, but hasn't been done with a namer. Not really much point, though, as SKP has actually been restored (as has 76084).

Didn't 34105 'Swanage' run as 34067 'Tangmere' in the early 90's as an April fool one year

Yes it did. Also 34027 Taw Valley ran as 34028 Eddystone on the main line for a while.

Did it? I know it ran as 34045 Ottery St Mary but I must have missed the Eddystone interlude.

34027 also ran as 34042, briefly, when it visited Llangollen many years ago.

Ive never heard of 34027 running as 34028? She has run as 34036 and 34045 in her last ticket. She will reppear as 34027 but I believe there is a plan for her to be renumbered as a squadron at some point.

I wasn't aware of 34027 ever running as Eddystone. However, besides masquerading as 34045, I think it also was re-numbered 34022 Exmoor for a while when it visited the West Somerset Railway

Not aware of that, but it has appeared as 34041 Wilton and 34102 Lapford at various times.

Clan Line has also run disguised as 35017 Belgian Marine on a couple of occasions. I think that the owner of one of 35017's nameplates may be an active MNLPS member.

I think it would be quite fun to pair an original and a rebuild but have them both carry the same identity. That should confuse a few people. :)

That could be fun. Or even better, have one visit a line that already owns one and swap identities. For example, SKP could visit the Bluebell and run for the duration of a gala in the identity of Sir Archie, while Sir Archie ran in the identity of SKP…

Just remember to swap the names and numbers back before the guest engine goes back.

It would certainly save on transport costs :)

Already happened for the dyslexic! Back in 1991 (I think), rebuilt 34027 and Unrebuilt 34072 were both running on the NYMR. A certain driver turned uup one morning, checked the board and started oiling up "his" engine. Some time later another driver appeared and thanked the first driver for kindly oiling up his loco - a slight case of mixing 27 and 72! On other occasions, it has been suggested that named locos of the same class have names swapped so that one is the other on the opposite side, which would confuse more than just drivers!

34105 has also run as 34051 at the MHR. See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmi...photolist-9G1SKG-daSt2J-dbwghC-dbwpHu-dbw2cK/

    35005 has also appeared as 34101....! http://www.flickr.com/photos/nick_h...qf-eRo5HH-eLju9N-eKykXV-ezWEFU-ezMsTA-ezGHZR/

Not to mention 34028 was briefly renumbered to 34016 for last years Swanage gala.

Would I be right in saying something has run as 34046 in the past? 34027 again possibly?

34039 starred as a "rebuilt" 34081 for a Steam Railway April Fool spoof.
34081 has appeared as 34057 for a gala on the NNR and a few weeks after that.
