    Full steam service on gold:

Loco 3: 0900 ex Pickering, 1030 ex Grosmont, 1200 ex Pickering, 1330 ex Grosmont, 1500 ex Pickering, 1830 ex Grosmont

Loco 2: 0930 ex Grosmoont, 1100 ex Pickering, 1230 ex Grosmont, 1400 ex Pickering, 1530 ex Grosmont, 1700 ex Pickering

Loco 3: 1000 ex Pickering, 1130 ex Grosmont, 1300 ex Pickering, 1630 ex Grosmont

Loco 1: 1010 ex Grosmont, 1100 ex Whitby, 1310 ex Grosmont, 1400 ex Whitby, 1600 ex Pickering, 1800 ex Whitby

However 0900, 1830 can be diesel, also all trains currently top and tail to Whitby using a diesel as follows:

1010 ex Grosmont (steam on rear), 1310 ex Grosmont (steam on rear), on rear of 1710 ex Grosmont (steam on front)

    Example link:

    http://www.nymrdiesel.co.uk/timetable/gold3-1.htm

New diagrams for when second platform is operating are unknown at this stage.

Hopefully correct, but possibly useless (sorry).

It should be all-steam apart from possibly the first or second departure from Pickering in the morning, and the last Grosmont-Pickering in the evening - subject to loco availability. This has been a thorny issue recently, but the situation seems to be easing with 45428 returning to traffic, 60007 arriving back today, 63395 expected back soon and 76079 planned to return in August.

Gold ordinarily is all steam (at the moment - when Platform 2 opens at Whitby, there is 1 diesel diagram on the "new" Gold), but the Sixties Weekend is always mixed traction to keep in one with the reality of the Railways in the 1960s.

RTT obviously know more than the NYMR because the post Whitby PL2 T/T has not been decided yet. Some draft T'T's have been circulated for comment.

The bits that involve Network Rail operation required bidding for paths months ago, which is where RTT will have got their information from - those bits are the same regardless of "colour" of timetable (unlike now, where the time of the last train differs) - except Sundays! The times look right for post Northern's change (driven by the change to the Trans Pennine service out of Manchester and its effect on Platform availability at Middlesbrough!) Other trains, and how all trains are diagrammed will be still under discussion in search of the elusive "perfect" result!

I look forward to the improved service to whitby and intend on using it as a ' Park and ride' to the town, last couple of trips have been park in whitby ( if you're lucky) and a quick trip up and down to Goathland. Is the other platform being extended or does it only need to be long enough for a two car MU ?

The existing Platform will principally be used by Northern (DMU) services, and the new Platform for NYMR services.

Whilst to do it the other way round would only require a shorter Platform 2, it would involve remodelling the track layout to make the running line serve Platform 2 and the "branch"/"siding" Platform 1. Platform 1 would also not be long enough for 7/8 coach trains if there was a run round - 7 plus a loco fits with about half a coach to spare at the moment and that is without a headshunt.

The extended Platform 2 will come to about half way down the Loco Shed (which is at the end of Platform 1).

I had a my first visit to the NYMR for a number of years at the weekend. It was a very enjoyable ride on the Friday with fours steam plus the 37 in action. Below is some video from that and the other days I was there including the Awesome Seventies weekend.

As I mentioned elsewhere, services through Grosmont were slightly curtailed for 4 days at teh end of last week and over the weekend to allow commissioning of the former Falsgrave Signal Gantry and the associated Grosmont North End Signalling.

This has been a very major project indeed and is essential to allow the passing of trains to and from Whitby at Grosmont. It was therefore necessary before the increased number of trains to and from Whitby could start.

The project has been done almost entirely "in house", with largely the volunteer team undertaking the work, assisted by external volunteer specialists and our small (very small - 2 man!) staff S & T Team.

One of the most complex aspects is the locking of the frame in Grosmont Crossing Box, but it was found that much of the preparation necessary had been included by the late, great John Boyes when the Box was first built - thanks John!

Attached is a very poor photo showing the signal arms in place and ready for use. To avoid having to attach the "out of use" crosses, the actual arms were only attached when ready to be commissioned.

I also attach a few shots of progress at Whitby. Platform work and signalling continues apace.

Look forward to the more intensive running of trains, great work done at Grosmont by S&T volunteers and staff being finished in time for the hoped for 2nd August start.
