Looks lovely, I might have to pop up to the ELR soon or hope it visits the SVR soon to go on the LMS set. 8 or 9 LMS coaches behind this, priceless

Not for a couple of years, please: we want the Stanier version back in traffic if and when she visits.

Could always have a whip round to pay for the coaches to go to ELR.

That would be good as 42968 was out of traffic and under overhaul the last time the Crab visited in 2001.

That would be intresting a side by side comparision in Bridgnorth yard! Also be nice if a pair of Ivatt moguls were posed next to them as a comparison of 25 years of LMS moguls. 43106 is my favorite think its a lovely looking engine

I think I would also be happy with that sounds good to me. Let's hope it becomes a reality in the future.

Hmm a family tree line up of 42765, 42968, 43106 and 76084... Interesting gala potential...
(Add in 62005 to show what a "Russian copy" looks like :))

I feel a gala coming on... Hows this for a line up 13065, 13968, 43106, 46443, Ivatt 2 tank, BR 76xxx, 82045, 84030 and maybe a standard and/ Fairburn tank would show how designs developed. Hows about it Mr Ballard?

Give it a few years then we could have 3 STD 4 moguls, the LNER Pair, at least 3 southern ones plus the others listed above. In fact instead of Nat Pres buying a Loco everyone better start donating now to pay for the transport costs and hire fees:confused:

Indeed he does. I didn't plug that as I'm not sure people on here would be that fussed with it having a face on.

Thanks for the info - went across today and got some nice shots including this - the normal 12:35 Heywood - Rawtenstall service supplemented with the 4-car dining service. I don't know if it's my ailing memory but have to say that its exhaust reminds me very much of the Patriot exhaust :

Nice photo Fred. If you are old enough (like me) to remember Patriot's exhaust, then you probably can't, problem of grey matter deterioration!
I like the ringing noise these loco's make when shut off, a video further back in the thread of 13065 arriving at Irwell Vale exemplifies this.
Being brought up in Bury we were privy to these machines, up to closure Buckley Wells MPD had several members of the class including 42700 "King Crab".
Nice to see they changed to the stock from the blue/white rake.

In fairness i was accepting the difference between the 2-cylinder beat of the Crab and the 3-cylinder beat of the Patriot but the "hollow" sound of the exhaust took me back to the late 1950s at Birmingham New St where Patriots were regular visitors to both Midland and Western lines and then later the regular sighting of 45500 / 01 / 11 on the 11:15 Nuneaton - Whitemoor goods as it trundled along the Welland Valley on the Rugby - Market Harborough - Peterborough line.

Aye, that'd be the this 'un (blatant second plug of own video)

I've noticed black 5s and 8Fs also make that noise (the ones of them I've observed anyway). I think it's something to do with the valve gear but not sure - does anyone know for certain?
