Is there any news considering 2999 Lady of Legend and 6023 Kind Edward II?

When will they be steaming and entering traffic?

Very briefly 6023's boiler now has tubes in it, awaiting delivery of the flues. The ash-pan is being fabricated. I think TPWS wiring is being installed.

On 2999 work is taking place on the front running plate and looking at the brake-rigging.

I am sure someone else will provide a fuller reply from one of the groups involved, come down for a beer over the bank holiday and see the engines for your self, all funds to 7202 and 3822, which will both be near the turntable. See the Didcot website for other activities over those 3 days.

www.6023.co.uk .... The news page says "Autumn 2009 is a genuinely possible date for completion"!

Didcot's 2999 Project page .... Unfortunately not up-dated since Aug last year, but as Baldric says, work is continuing.

Rather than lock one thread, shall I suggest 2999 is discussed in this thread and 6023 discussed in the simultaneous thread HERE?

A bit more on 2999. The front running plate angle is being modified to inprove access for fitting the new front cylinder covers, and also the front valve covers that are carry over from 4942. The new lever reverser assembly is now in place in the cab. Both the boilers from 6023 and 2999 have had the pads for the various fittings machined flat to remove the effects of Barry corrosion. This meant the roof of 2999 had to be removed to enable access. The brake rigging is under to review at present. We think much of 4942's gear can be reused although we know we shall have to make some new parts. Work on the motion has also started with the expansion links refurbished, coupling rods are likely to be next. Although some new non ferrous parts like the injectors, water gauge frame, and the cylinder cocks were made some time ago, we have been sourcing various cab boiler fittings over the past 18 months. This is made a bit more difficult because there are often noticeable differencies between Churchward design parts and the same parts from the Collett era. Generally ex Barry locos have been restored using Collett design parts, so patterns for these are already in existence. But providing Churchward era parts often means more research, new drawings and new patterns. Now that the fittings are beginning to arrive at Didcot, it planned to fit them and make up the copper and steel pipe runs over the next year. Work is also planned to commence his year with a start on replacing the steel side stays, and when 6023's boiler is placed back in its frames, 2999's boiler will be lifted and placed on the boiler trolley presently carrying 6023's boiler. With the boiler off, it will allow easier access to refit 2999's motion and brake gear, as well as allowing boiler work to continue.
