If I remember correctly it was a condition of its being donated that it stayed in NS livery.

It was donated to the people of Manchester on the understanding that it stayed in as donated condition so yes you are correct with that. Plus you want to try taking it back to EM2 condition... far too much work. The controls are all on the right.

And that looks better does it, with flat-bottomed rail (and probably concrete sleepered too)?
    Just saying...

If you were being really picky ... the bullhead keyed rail on timber sleepers is probably wrong too.

Well yes, it probably is. Or at the very least the rail is too heavy duty, and the steel keys are certainly too modern.

And don't mention the carriages which are on BR wagon steel underframes!

But there's not an inch of flat bottomed rail or a concrete sleeper in site. My eye was more focused on the modern stuff on the left, though.

Edit: Left it as a draft and didn't send till it was already commented on!

L&M track seems to have been fish bellied rails chaired onto stone blocks.

Looks OK to me like that.
Just need a rake of similarly painted ballast wagons to complete the picture.

If you want period piece trackwork then dip your hands in your pocket and provide some.
Otherwise what you see is what you get.
I would guess that the railway concerned has more on its mind providing decent trackwork, that is not prone to fracturing and will not need as much maintenance to keep it in good shape.

No one has mentioned the stone ballast either, Steve you are slipping.

I didn't want this to be a big moan. I appreciate the work that all you people do. As I said, I had a good time and it seems a bit picky to moan about a headboard. So apologies for not showing proper appreciation of your efforts.

Can't be too picky. If you want to be that, even those trees weren't around in 1830!

Not at all, merely discussing period p/way. There were some supposedly ex-L&M rails used on The Storeton Tramway, some still in place. I wonder if they are still there.

Wasn't sure about the sleepers but look at the rails again. Most bullhead but not all.

You're right. I wonder why it was worth putting in a few feet of FB between BH.

Usual reason is because that was what was available at the time.

Beamish's Rowley Station line represents a late 19th century country station, so fish-belly rails would not be suitable. Still, it's a nice setting for Planet.

The Pockerley Tramway would look better with more primitive permanent way. A project for the future perhaps.

If you dig up Rest Hill Road in Higher Bebington you would find some where the Storeton Tramway crossed over it.
Liverpool museum had some when 'Lion' & replica coaches were displayed at William Brown Street, but since moving to the appalling 'Museum of Liverpool Life' this has been replaced with bullhead rail on wooden sleepers. Presumably the fish-bellied rail & stone blocks are in store.

    Bob.
