If there's a precedent then i suspect that is the reason it doesn't upset too many purists, same as 7802 running about with a 4000 gallon tender.

It does upset some purists, but they aren't given the chance to change it. Personally I'd like to see Repton and Bradley Manor running with the correct sized tenders, but neither option is available to us. Thank goodness the Maunsell Society have their collection, at least all their Maunsell locomotives are very very close to their correct appearance.

Repton is out running albeit with a wrongly sized tender, Stowe and Cheltenham are unserviceable with the correct sized tender and neither is likely to run for years yet. I know which I prefer!

Many thanks for that. The last time I travelled behind a Schools class was with 30934 from Ashford to Tonbridge on 4th January 1961. After a run down from Orpington behind D1 31489 on the famous 07.24 ex London Bridge, (it's fame came because it was the last regular passenger working behind the L1 and D1 4-4-0 locos). I think maybe it is time I enjoyed another run behind a Schools!

I'll watch this page for further information.

P.S. Being from down South do I need a passport to enter Yorkshire? ;-)

I would second that, and also running where it can really show its capabilities rather than shuffling up and down
half a dozen miles of flat line.

I think that was what royce6229 meant - the NYMR isn't half a dozen miles of flat line!

Having learned all about Blundell's tender from you guys, I now view the one on Repton as a rarity, not a mistake. Keep it and treasure it.

No probs the NYMR has no equals when it comes to hearing what a locomotive can really do, and I know all about early starts! #-o
