How much running in does 34046's tender need before mainline trials begin. Great to see she's only a few days from returning.

Braunton rostered for WSR service trains from 27th - 31st July. Further roster dates not shown as yet. <BJ>

  4. Also 1-3 Aug - my "system" only allows for seven days ahead so I can't yet show these dates! Plus it could all change before then :-(

I haven't received the full Aug roster sheet yet.

I see 34046 has been pulled from the trip to Portsmouth on Sept 10th. Does this mean she won't make the Atlantic Coast Express the week before?

In the latest Steam Railway (which I would read with a pinch of salt anyway) it said that 34046 was rostered to work on the WSR on the 3rd and 4th of September.

I really hope not as the ACE wouldn't be the same with anything other than double headed Bulleids.

Confirmed on the Late Summer Weekend page on http://www.wsr.org.uk/lsw2011.htm
This will no doubt cause no end of problems for the 'ACE'.

A shame it seems she's going to miss the ACE. Would have been a great sight with 34046 and 34067 double heading.

Having phoned Steam Dreams this morning it appears that they still think 34046 will feature on both legs of the ACE. It looks like someones going to be dissapointed when they're a loco down then.

The latest info from the Steam Dreams office is not always the most reliable.

    Perhaps the WSR is wrong?

As Brauntons outward leg of the ACE is only in the afternoon of the 4th, and as it's starting from Westbury which isn't that far from WSR, isn't it plausible that she could be doing both & thus all parties are right???

Thanks for the heads up. I think the only real indication of what will happen is when the mainline test runs take place.

Perhaps didn't they have 70000 listed as in steam on the WSR on July 12th and 70000 perfomed on a DCE that day?

Britannia was due to spend a longer period on WSR running in as was published on the WSR websites but was then required for mainline duty earlier than originally expected. The publicity for the late summer event on WSR carries a note to say subect to availability. I guess it will depend on how the tender works when in traffic on WSR and whether those responsible for Braunton think she is ready for mainline testing and whether that can be arranged within the necessary timescale - a lot of "ifs and buts" there and I guess we will have to wait and see. DH

  19. Yes, Dan, you are right. Except that after that first announcement, on 9 July a note was posted on www.wsr.org.uk saying "No 70000 will leave the West Somerset Railway a few days earlier than previously expected. The WSR explain: "We have been notified that BR 4-6-2 no 70000 Britannia is now required to leave the WSR on Monday 11 July..." I believe the WSR official website also quoted the same revised information. Hope that helps.

As far as Braunton is concerned there is no news (yet) of commencement of mainline running.

I considered that scenario but I assumed it was highly unlikely as it might stretch the support crew quite a bit and I would have thought they'd have preffered to start the ACE afresh by being at Westbury somewhat earlier (giving them time to prep the loco), rather than with any ailments accumulated whilst at the WSR or moving to Westbury.
