Very recently hatherton hall said we would see 4472 completed before we saw '46 on the main line. I can only assume therefore that Scotsman is in steam as we speak. :)

What a wonderful sight and sound she was at Winchfield tonight. My video is here: (Turn up the volume for the whistle).

Well done to all involved for getting her back on the Main Line.

My video of 34046's inaugural railtour - The Dorset Coast Express. Caught at Potbridge, Micheldever and Brokenford bridge in Totton on the outward, then Totton station, Test Lane, Whitchurch, Hook and Winchfield. Wonderful to see her out and about at last! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtCNCCsZy2c

When she turns up at the MHR she'll have something in common with 34007 which is that the shades of green on the tenders are different. 34007 now has the tender 34046 used when intially running in, which is a lighter shade of green compared to 34007 itself, where as Braunton has the lighter green but its tender is a darker shade.

Isn't 34046 now running with ex 35005 tender and 34007 first steam in preservation with 34059 and then tenders got swapped around to allow 34046 to gain a larger water capacity tender? This then led to 34007 gaining 34046 tender and 34059 tender was returned to 34059?

    Cheers

No AFAIK she is running with the new build tender that was built at the W.S.R. The ex 35005 tender is destined to go behind 35027.

That's a handful to remember, but didnt 34039's tender come into this as well somewhere... What was the tender used to take 35005 to Eastleigh.. I recall it delayed the move as it needed to be mainline registered ?

When 34039 & 35005 were at the GCR (20+ years ago) their tenders got swapped. I believe this was later made permanent. 34039's tender (the ex-35005 one) has been loaned out all over the place in recent years but has been back at the GCR for a while now. I think 34007 used it for a while but it probably isn't the only one.

That is correct. 34046 ran for some years at the WSR with 35027's tender, until such time as its own new tender built at Williton was available. Then a swop was arranged with 35027's tender going to the Mid Hants for 35005, and 35005's (modified) tender going to Bury for eventual use with 35027. Incidentally 34046's new BR style tender (no 3261) is a BR rebodied 5250 gallon tender, similar to the one Braunton had throughout its service as a Rebuild (also no 3261) but later scrapped in South Wales. The new tender has disc wheels and roller bearing axleboxes as used on Class 33, 73 and 4-REP. The only other BR rebodied 5250 tender of this type that I know of was built new for use with 34059.

..and yes, the new tender was painted some years after Braunton, and is very slightly darker in colour.

As I understand it 34007 is running with the tender 34046 had when first steamed. When 34007 first steamed it had 34039's tender which went back to Loughborough a few years ago and then had 35005's tender which was then swapped with 35027's tender (which was the tender 34046 first steamed with) and is currently the tender behind 34007 as its own is still awaiting completion and that tender will eventually end up behind 35005. 34046 has a newly constructed tender.

    Anyone else's head hurt?

I, like Duty Druid can't wait to see her for the first time (to the best of my knowledge) at the MHR (even though her early preservation days were spent just down the road in Brighton).
