I have just decided that my shop will be closed on the 19th August and by sheer coincidence I will be in the Weymouth area.

I'm sure it will - one trip won't convince NR that banking assistance should not be provided. Were it not for the problem I gather they had attaching the replacement 73 to the end, Tangmere would not have gone out unaided. Think it was one of those very rare occasions where common sense prevailed and you were very fortunate to have been part of that trip. Thanks for sharing it.

Would reckon that plans to have a box there and ready to use must go ahead. Supposing it is more traditional UK summer weather that evening, with rain lashing down etc!

Having watched the on train video of 34067, (many thanks for posting it here), two things amazed me. Firstly what must have been a very quick initial acceleration with what I presume was a "cold" loco. Second was the relative ease with which Tangy seemed to get over the summit.

No probs, there was a report of Pete Roberts saying he would decide if he could make it through the tunnel,if not the 73 would come? I have no idea how much truth there is in that

Considering how the WC "blitzed" the Highland main line in 1948 - not as steep but longer than Upwey - I'm not surprised at all by 34067's performance on this
    run.

A shot of Tangmere at Upwey. A shame there was no sun, this shot will soon be ruined by the new road in the background...
