Thanks for sharing it. There still seems to be a paucity of information regarding CP on the Mid-Hants website, did you ask them if they wanted your blogs?

I havent offered if I am honest. The reason being I am hoping to get a job working as a signaller for Network Rail and if I get the job it requires you take a 9 week course in Leeds. This means I wouldnt for obvious reasons be able to work on 35005 and give reports. If I get the job and complete the training and get things settled down I will talk to them about it but until then I dont want to start something and know that I could have to stop for a big period of time.

Thank you. Amazed how many views my diary entry has got. 300 in under 24 hours!

I was reading on another forum and someone mentioned that when a Merchant Navy was named a 3rd replica nameplate was given to the relevant shipping company. Apparently P&O have theres in hanging up in the head office so does anyone know what happened to the 3rd Canadian Pacific one?

    12th November 2013 – Diary Entry 4

Thank you very much everyone who has read it.

Hi Siquelme, I have seen two Canadian Pacific nameplates here in Canada. One was in the National Museum of Science and Technology, in Ottawa. It was on display back in the early 1980's but I have not seen it for years, (I have just e-mailed them asking about it, but not holding my breath waiting for a reply!) and the other I saw last year in the secure storage area of Exporail in Montreal when we were looking at the Bell and hanger for D of C. I have no idea if one or the other came from the Canadian Pacific Co, I will make enquiries, but I think the Exporail one was a donation from a private collector who bought it off BR!! I had always thought the ones on your loco were reproductions. I will let you know what I turn up.
    Cheers,
    Owd Sweedy
Oh and I ought to add, I know for a fact that the one at Exporail is definitely NOT for sale. It is a strict matter of museum policy, as was explained to me in detail the last time I mentioned it! Unlike a preserved railway that has to find money wherever it can, the museum gets funding from governments, from donations and tickets at the door, not by selling off bits of its collection, even bits that are not on display.

Thanks for the information guys. I knew the 2 original plates were bought straight from BR like Clan Line the replicas which were built for her have been on the locomotives longer than the originals now. I was just wondering what happened to the 3rd plate had visions of it being left in a storage basement at shipping terminal. I have interest in purchasing them it was just a case of one conversion about 35006s 3rd plate (which is still in P&O headquaters apparently) and got me wondering about 35005s.

I was told sometime ago that there is or was a collection of MN plates in the P&O offices in Southampton. I don't know if they are still there?

I remember hearing all the other shipping companies that were absorbed in to P&O had there loco plates displayed in Southampton. I'm led to believe 35018 plate is there or was there.

Just found these I took of 35005 in happier days.
The good old days of Daylight Railtours, this was a trip to Newport in July 2002 I believe.
Had to catch a train from Reading to Guildford to board it.

From what I have been told 35005 back on the Main Line in a few years could be likely..........

Yea the talk is she is "likely to make guest mainline appearances" which should mean she shouldn't spend to much time away from Ropley. Would require the Mid Hants to get a coach suitable for support coach duties ready.

As well as a Canadian Pacific nameplate, Exporail also have one off 35004 Cunard White Star, which I believe was a private donation to the museum. The relevance being that Samuel Cunard was a Canadian from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I heard back from the Science and Tech museum in Ottawa and their CP nameplate is still in their collection, at present in the conservation lab. To try and answer Siquelme's original question I have asked if it came from BR, via a donor, or from the shipping company. Will let you know when I hear back.

Hi Siquelme, If you prefer I will get them to take a photo for you, I know the right guy to ask, if he is not too busy. I have a small pic I took myself with my iPhone, which I hesitate to post here as it was taken in a restricted area, and I don't want to appear to be in breach of my privileges, if you see what I mean. If I can get him to take one I will PM you.
