62005, saying that, what do you determine a failure? Some failed the FTR which means they never left the shed. 4965 did not appear once because it was awaiting spares, 34067 went for overhaul which turned out more complex than first thought. 60007 I think again required more work than first thought. What happened to 45407?

Getting back on subject, the only time i have seen all three safetys up is when setting them ,injectors dont have any moving parts do they ?, relying on the water making a partual vacuum to overcome the clacks so its either where they have got to hot, or a blockage somewhere in the water feed , i wonder is the tender tank still the original, it could be something as simple as debris in the tank blocking the filters . it has been said that the ones currently fitted are wastful and use a lot of water but for both to fail would indicate something has gone badly wrong , on the mainline do they run both at the same time? ive never fired on the mainline, but always were told to switch from one to the other, and only ever had both on when changing gradient and heavy braking on the 1 in 60 approaching medstead from alton , the only other possible reason is that someone forgot to close the injector waterfeed after operating the injector which if i am honest , if your struggling to get an injector to pick up and you go to the secondary injector , you could very easily leave the flow running and not hear it

Has 60007 actually failed on the main line? I thought it's non appearance was due to overrunning winter maintenance. Same with 60009, not actually booked for anything main line this year - under maintenance again IIRC. There's a world of difference between a loco being unavailable due to failure and being out of traffic due to scheduled maintenance even if that maintenance is taking longer than expected.

"Injectors don't have any moving parts" You've never studied an 8X, 10X or 11X then!!!! Why can't you wait for the official report from the MNLPS, instead of guessing.

Just to add to what buseng has said.

60009 hasn't even steamed in the last 6 months, she is undergoing a major overhaul. 60007 as far as i know hasn't failed on the mainline, and has 34067 recently? Again she is undergoing overhaul. There are big differences between failing and being taken out of service for repairs/overhauls..... so you may want to rethink your list of failed locos.

Ralph. I'll contact the MNLPS for the latest information, and then post it here.

In the meantime I hope this thread can be kept open as the means of keeping a factual information flow going about this much loved steam locomotive. To help you do that maybe you would consider removing the more speculative posts that I am sure are posted more out of concern for the loco and the MNLPS than for any other reason.

Clan Line - elder statesman of main line steam. Lets hope she is OK. Plenty of spare MN boiler and fireboxes out there....

Well the Tour on the 'Merchant Adventurer' on the 29th May is now cancelled due to Clanline being unavailable. http://www.uksteam.info/tours/trs10.htm

So do we anticipate another announcement soon with problems with 35028 such as Boiler/Injector problems?

    Very sad news indeed!

Well who knows what problems there might be after the fire brigade put their hose in the firebox to put the fire out...... Not ideal treatment for a firebox!!!

    Bongo,

Who said that had happened? The press release says the 'ejected fire was doused by the Fire Brigade". Nothing about firehoses being put into the firebox.

Is bongo jim is the same as Bongo? Seems a different writing style for starters.

Anyhow, back to the topic I am told 3 plugs overall were dropped, and a particular contributory factor has been identified. Investigation is ongoing though, so I don't propose to speculate more.

Totally agree there Spamcan, theres a major difference between failing and removed from service for maintenance however servere so I can see 4 of those mentioned have been labelled incorrctly.

Lets hope Clan Line isn't in a bad way so fingers crossed!

The National Incident Report has an initial comment that a contributory factor might have been a restriction in the flow of feed water from the tender to the injectors, and want all operators of both Heritage and main line registered locomotives to be aware of this, and in effect check that their locomotives have no such restriction in feed water supply from the tender.

In the past (preservation era) locos have failed this way due to rags or sheets of poorly ahereing paint from the inside of tender tanks becoming dislodged & obstructing the tender feed water filters. Could this be why BR(W) at least did not paint the inside of tanks & tenders?
