Bittern Facebook page said that dates were still being worked on.

Sunset on Dec 7th is around 3.50pm so it'll be dark by 4.30 for certain. So I presume that they are planning on dashing up to York by about 11 am and then setting off back around 1 pm so they can get down Stoke and to the suburbs before dark. Whilst I have enjoyed sprinting through the dark behind steam in the past, the trip will lose a lot if it's not mostly in daylight.

Correct. Trip gets to York at 11:15 am with departure at 13:50 and an arrival time at Kings X around 6pm. Where is the final 90mph stretch?

I agree, having been on plenty of parts of tours in darkness, you can easily lose all sense of speed when not flashing through a lit station, unsure if your doing 30MPH or nearer 80MPH, 90MPH in the dark would be hard to differentiate from 75MPH.

North of Hitchin. So it'll be Stoke in daylight but you'll need a torch for mileposts around Biggleswade! Hopefully the Tyne Tees will be sorted out before the clocks go back as if it can be done before then the arrival back in York (1750ish) should guarantee a daylight steam section

At least ECML has mileposts on both sides to help timers who may be fighting for windows! I assume 'Bittern' will have to provide steam heat or maybe a generator van will be added to the load.

You are joking right? I'd give my eye teeth to get a video of an A4 at 90mph in the snow - day dusk or night.

Pathfinder has today confirmed in a letter that the Tyne Tees Streak will be on a day in the week before the Dec 7 run to London. If the original path is the one that is used then that will mean a return from Newcastle in the dark. Let's hope that the Newcastle return can be advanced by an hour without compromising servicing time for Bittern. That way at least we'll get to see a bit of the southbound dash in daylight...and the punters from Bristol will be eternally grateful to get home a bit earlier!

I think he means snowing to the extent those poxy electric trains decide they don't fancy it and sit down all along the route.

The A4 would of course be fine, what with it's in built snowplough n all :D

Got myself booked on the Capital Streak as a birthday treat to myself. :) Now I just have to break the news to the Mrs. that I'm off out on my own that day. (Her birthday is the day before mine and we usually celebrate together.) Wish me luck.

As you know it's been a bit of a crap few weeks for me so I decided to treat myself. I'll be champing at the bit if it's sunny and snow on the day though.
