Wait, did I miss something - where does it say 44767 has actually managed to find a new owner?

Its a bit of thread drift; it will undoubtedly drift back when and if there is any news.

Nope. You've missed nothing - at least to my knowledge. I hope 44767 will go to a good home soon, as I'm sure others do. Furthermore, I'd be delighted to read about the new owner (when one comes forward) on this thread. Unfortunately, all I have seen in the last few pages has been a particularly bad case of thread drift.

To drift the thread even further, what has happened to 44932, she only returned to steam in 2010 so doesn't seemed to have lasted a full ticket and has vanished into the ether at Carnforth?

Think 4932 returned to 10A from Southall about 3 years back, having had a heavy workload down south often covering for class 7 or 8s. Perhaps this exacted a heavy toll and caused premature withdrawal?
Given the size of fleet now being managed at 10A an orderly queue might be the case and being a class 5 is 44932 a priority when set against the larger locos needing attention? Obviously the priority has been 35018 and now one assumes 46115 but after that there is 34067 and 34016 pitentially competing with 44932 for workshop attention? Then 45699 will presumably fall due an intermediate at least and so it goes on .....

When Steam Railway did their article on 35018 I'm pretty sure 44932's cab was sat on the floor in the corner of one of the shots.

Yes, I have the same recollection, two years ago?

......Which is why I rather hope it doesn't end up with either WCR or IoS, both have long queues,

True but either presumably has the option and means to subcontract an overhaul or even control to the likes of Rileys if the latter was open to such an arrangement. Wouldn't be a bad thing for 44932 perhaps?

Just bumping the thread as BBC Four screened "The Fishing Line" episode of the excellent Steam Days series at 7pm this evening* which features 44767 working the Mallaig line in the 1980's. It suddenly made me think about what has happened to 44767. Does anyone know what is going on with the Black Five? Has the overhaul at Carnforth started?

*BBC FOUR are showing two more episodes of Steam Days this week at 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

I think with "George" its overall condition worsened over its last couple of boiler tickets that it needed that much work it was sold to West Coast. There was some pictures circulating of new roller bearings being fitted.

Perhaps the lack of give and slightly longer wheel base makes a roller bearing black 5 not the best incarnation to work the Fishing line...
