You can argue for/suggest/wish for/demand any colour you like. At the end of the day, SNG's livery is decided by the members of the SNGLT. If you want to have a real say in the matter, join the trust as a member or 'friend' (monthly contributions) and maybe even buy a boiler tube for the next overhaul.

    Details here :)

Just got an email (with tickets) to say the loaded test was a complete success and (so far) it's all systems go for Saturday!

Nah, far too many GWR green locos already, but not enough blue ones ;-)

BR Blue is her USP, and was quite rightly voted for by the membership, at the livery poll.
I am sure the Crewe paint shop will do a first class job.

This https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C26852/2022-05-21/detailed looks like loco and support coach alone going out to turn, leaving the rest of the train temporarily in the station, then https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U63012/2022-05-21/detailed taking the train out of the way until just before the return departure. That suggests no diesel on the back; otherwise it would be easier to take the whole train straight out to Upperby.
    Edit@ see subsequent clarifications.

The first set of times is the RTC CME turning move not 60007.

Saphos, no diesel, that'll be the day.

OK, thanks for the clarifications. I wasn't at all sure what was what, especially with the return run not showing at all. And I had forgotten that there will be two steam tours arriving at Carlisle close together.

I also guess as a first tour back a diesel on something like the WCML may give some extra insurance in case of issues.

I've been on a Saphos steam tour using a mix of Mk1s and air con Mk2s where there was no diesel (Dec 2018 to Burnley); a genny car was included in the consist IIRC.

But having said that, I agree it would be wise to have a tailgunner given it's SNG's first proper run since overhaul.

Mr Hoskings private train is out this weekend so presumably the Genny will be with that since it has 2 non ETH 37s

They've got a perfectly good generator car. The last unassisted run from them was last July on the Bristol Forty.
