There’s a part of me cheering, for surviving so long the other part of me’s just thinking ‘put it out it’s misery’

Nothing a bit of T cut won't put right.

Well I never knew they had a steering wheel, perhaps Branson was on to something after Grayrigg!

I'm torn 50/50 on really, really wanting to see it fragged so this can all be over and wierdly enjoying the endless twists and turns of its life. Has any other locomotive managed to escape scrapping so many times?

The J21 and several Terriers spring to mind, then there’s the Adams tank.
Modern Traction wise possibly 37029? Withdrawn by BR bought by Pete Waterman, went back on the mainline, bought by DRS, then withdrawn and bought by the Epping Ongar Railway.

Trouble with this one is that it really is just a wreck now with no working future. Scrapping is the best option, especially when pictures on Facebook show that actually cutting has begun, with some gas torch action to separate the main generator. Parts will live on though with apparently both cabs, generator, bogies, exhauster, header tank, cyl heads, inter coolers either already gone or destined for at least 4 other class 45 groups.

I believe several ‘Peak’ groups were pointed in 45015’s way when contacting Toton regarding spares in the past…
It really needs to be disposed off.

Don't forget 48773, that is a survivor which camels or the modernisation plan couldn't stop ;)

Of course in the diesel world, some locos haven't been as lucky as 37029. D5541/31123 springs to mind, remember riding behind it after it entered preservation at the GWSR. Ultimately was scrapped though.

I'm not suggesting it should be saved, it passed that point when I was still at school (i.e. longer ago than I care to remember). I just enjoy the endless soap opera of its existence. I really can't even begin to understand why it's not bean cans by now, even with the legal and asbestos issues.

I knew it wasn’t a serious suggestion, you are right though it’s definitely outlasted what you would expect, in a sense it is a shame to see the end of the old girl. If there had been a diesel equivalent of Barry scrapyard, it may have been worth keeping as a static exhibit, trouble was there wasn’t, even locos in the scrap lines generally didn’t look that bad.

Well yes, I did think about that that as I posted it, rather the exception to most diesels in preservation, I suppose I was thinking along the lines of 92045.

Mind you at the time of the photo, it’s probably in better condition than 45015!!!
