Can't comment on 44932 as I don't know what the figure in the magazine was, but the overhaul was well advanced and the engine was not too far from steaming, so had the added value of an almost complete overhaul. But I don't think that the other examples you quote necessarily disprove my point.

34073 hasn't sold, of course, which suggests that a Barry wreck, even with a lot of parts, isn't worth 300K! The Manor, at 250-300K, is a similar sized loco to 45231 and although the Black 5 is main line registered and has a year or two left on its ticket, several summers worth of the West Highland will have left their mark. 3803 hasn't sold and neither has 4588, which suggests that the level of perhaps 350K for 45231 would be a more realistic asking price, giving a value of around 700K for the overhauled engine.

The info I have is that 45231 is on test to Hellifield and back on the 28th and then moves to Thornton on the 7th and leaves Carnforth at 7-45am . Steve

    Re: 45321

Is it a possibility that I saw 45321 (as so many people are convinced that it still exists) in the West Highlands last year?! ;)

Wow! Never thought of that! Actually, the reason for leaving Carnforth tender first (normally it is the return from Hellifield) was to check the tender wheels, which have just been given new tyres.

    Re: 45321

Thought there was a problem with 45231 that resulted in one of the Riley 5s dashing to Scotland as a replacement? Or has that happened already?
