The latest votes on the PRLCT site are:

    Red: 709
    Green: 602
    Blue: 578
    Black: 66

Time for a little tactical voting, and to up the ante. I like LMS crimson lake, but since she'll be returning to that later anyway, let's have something different for a while first. We've already had a year or so of LMS black, and BR Green is just boring - she'll look like every other BR green pacific, and blend into the countryside too easily. So, it's got to be blue!

She's a fine loco, and worth a decent donation regardless of whether this "race" is fixed or fair. So, I'm going to contribute £100 towards a coat of blue paint. Who's with me?

Repaints after the first year in traffic are getting quite popular now so why not have Blue for a year only. She could visit a preserved railway for a gala perhaps and get the punters in - everybody wins!

The poll is for a year only anyway, then it's back to LMS red again.

Tactical voting would work best if those in the green camp held back until towards the end of the poll. Some how I think even if there was a late surge for green, or even blue, it would still be superseded by LMS red at the last minute.

Still doesn't surpass the line up at Crewe in 2005 with 6233, 46229, 6201 and 46203. And 71000 which is an 'honorary' LMS pacific I guess!

How can you be one cylinder short of a pacific?! Pacific refers to wheel arrangement, nowt to do with cylinders. No argument about "wrong colour", but given its basic principles of design come from the LMS, it shouldn't be ruled out entirely - continual development of the express passenger locomotive.

The pointy nosed ones, DoG etc got it right , the others are just over-blown 2 cyl m/c's with the cranks set that way. The only proper 4 cyl loco is Nelson ;)

Keith, i also have noticed that the twinkle in the eye is lost in the typing with nice little quips like that!

The basic design of the component parts might be mostly LMS, but im sure Messrs Harrison and Jarvis and more than a hand in 71000's. The standard Pacific boilers basic dimensions we're closer to those of the V2 and WC/BB, 71000 more like a Merchant navy than a princess coronation, (which is 'a king with too many wheels')

it will be interesting to see how many people go to see 6201 46203 lined up next to each other as its £3 pound entrance and you get a vote with that. maybe they will vote for green or blue, who knows

David Wilcock seems a bit miffed that he might not be getting it in BR green again............. See this month's Heritage Railway! The other one was repainted green for a while, what is he whining about!

He is quite rightly whining about the fact that some owners can see the vast publicity, and merchandising, value in ringing the changes - and some can't.

6233 is earning a nice little sum from someone who seems to want the colour that she will wear for about nine out of ten years of her next ticket for the full ten - how boring is that?

The A1 and 6023 people understand - only too well.

What he says on the forum and the smile on his face listening to 8624 that night train to Cauldon Lowe are two different things :)

There's the variety of originality, in all its hues, red, black, blue, green, and red again, available to 6233, let alone identity changes - all of which could perfectly validly be described as interpretation and education.

Then there's playing silly little boys with a paintbrush - because you can, which has absolutely NOTHNG to do with preservation and interpretation!.

    Choose your own stance accordingly.

And ADB - as I said that night "All 8Fs are black in the dark" just as they should be in the day
