Yes but they were all paid I think these are volunteers which shows the commitment of this team.

Agreed, that's why I wanted to differentiate between the two, they cannot really be compared at all.

Its 65th birthday is mid-2013 so its not for that. Is it playing some special part in the Olympics/Diamond Jubilee next year we haven't been told about? I think they just want to see it running again.

Surely it was built before 1948?

Whilst she is sitting in pieces she is not earning, so getting the job done right, and as quickly as is possible without cutting corners, make economic sense..

I think I remember a rumour in one of the magazines a few years ago suggesting that she was to be renamed 46245 City of London for the Olympics. Although it wouldn't an authentic look as the running plate on 46245 is the same as what 46229 had but would be interesting to see her in other guises during her year in Brunswick Green. Maybe some photo charters on preserved lines as well?

The Diamond Jubilee is good thought as 6233 hauled the Royal Train twice although 6201 would be more appropriate but her ticket expires in March doesn't it?

Edit I found the Magazine it was Heritage Railway from 2007 I think but the loco was to be painted Maroon as 46245.

I've concluded that in place of the usual Radio 2 soundtrack to this overhaul they've had a continuous loop of the William Tell overture and the Dick Barton Theme Tune.

I was having a muse just now (as one does).

The PRCLT has recently suggested that, on completion of 6233 in the next few months (days?!) they'll be looking at doing 6203 Princess Margaret Rose - presumably the income generated from 6233 will overhaul 6203, and vice versa down the line and so on and so forth.

But it occurred to me - the NRM are increasingly loaning locomotives for mainline service to other groups - 70013 and 30777 being the ultimate examples - and I thought surely the PRCLT would be the very best custodian of a certain streamlined beast sitting in the great hall? I'm not calling for it immediately, and if the economics don't add up then fair enough, but it's just a thought I had - what do others think?

Would the PRCLT actually want to restore an LNER loco though? ;)

In all seriousness that could be an interesting move for both parties, certainly be a magnificent sight to see all 3 together.
