Yes. A big jump. Hmmm. Me thinks some calling to order will be needed nearer to the August deadline to get the green nudged back in front!! What I don't fully understand, is if the trust are really committed to the idea of having an alternative livery for a year, why include the LMS crimson within the vote? If it'll carry that livery anyway for the remainder what's the point? Even if it was BR maroon it would at least be different (albeit not correct for 46233)...

...anyhow, at least it'll be back in one piece and out on the big railway - regardless of colour!

Got to agree with Mighty Mogul - if it's going to be LMS crimson for x years after the first, it seems a shame to make it an option for the first year. Again, I agree with Mighty Mogul that BR crimson would be a nice option, despite not being carried specifically by 6233 in service.

    BR Blue for the win!

Are those voters so against a change from Crimson Lake that they are prepared to spend their money just to keep her the same as before?

Is there a Carmine/Cream rake on the mainline to run with all these (potentially) blue engines?

    The Royal Scot set?

The liveries of mainline services is a bugbear for me.

Riveria Trains have Blood & Custard Mk 1s but I don't know if they have enough for a complete train.

Blimey BR Express Blue has shot up which is nice, fingers crossed it overtakes Brunswick Green soon. Plus I believe the Royal Scot set is the set which Tornado usually runs with and that is Carmine and Crimson (or Blood and Custard if you like)

Wouldn't surprise me if there are certain individuals who would happily part with a reasonable some of money to keep the thing in LMS crimson...but that's just speculation so I'll shut up ;o)

The only reason I can see for putting LMS livery in the votes is that - should it win - it'll save on a repaint for a few years.

Perhaps I should put my cynicism away and just put a few more votes for Express Blue forward...!

Well i'm personally disappointed LMS crimson is top, as others have said i don't see why people want to see something she will carry anyway and has done for many years already. I personally wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of the voters for LMS crimson are people who don't like change on a loco, but come on.... BR blue or green please, something a bit different!? And before people tell me to vote, i can't really justify spending out for all the votes needed for my preferred colour to overtake!

Jesus. Some people/person must really hate green. Im going to wait till it gets closer to the end to place my bid. I really am up for blue at the moment. Something different.

Just how much does it actually cost to paint a loco?

The A1 people, who are superb at PR, have the right idea - ring the changes - keep the loco in the news - and fresh with newsy stories.

Rather than a poll, an undertaking to repaint the loco at intervals, if funded in advance from enthusiast donations, would yield both interest and revenue.

That way the BR haters could have their day in the sun and the rest of us, of a more mature and expansive outlook, could enjoy the variety of a loco in ALL her glory.

A good point, well made, and a highly sensible suggestion for ensuring that everybody is happy. Either that or we could bring in AV, so that the losers also 'win'... I'll get my coat! ;)

I think it's a rather novel, progressive way of settling an old debate. If you want to see the engine in a particular colour then make a donation to help pay for it. It's simple, fair and democratic. It opens up the debate and choice to the enthusiast which is an interesting statement. The PRLCT could have said 'it's our engine and we'll paint it what we like' but this is a different view and they should be congratulated on the openness that they are showing.

I started this thread to discuss the overhaul of the engine but it is obvious that the only thing important is paint I think we should rename the forum National paint because that is all that seems to be discussed.

There's no denying that it considerably alters the appearance of the loco, an emotive subject for many enthusiasts, but you are right. Looking at the April updates the work seems to be coming on apace. Almost looks like it's getting to the point of it all being put back together again!

Its interesting that you seem to be presenting those who want the loco BR green as mature! It's normally by far the most vociferous and least accommodating group. I'm not really bothered what colour the anti-corrosion coating is as long as the loco runs, but it is nice to occasionally see an express engine that isn't BR green.
