That will be the next thing, fire risk steam ban & its only April! Had no rain here (Berkshire), apart from a few sprinkles, for several weeks now. Certainly nothing in April. What's happened to the April showers?

None, basically. The shrubbage around Borth was bone dry, and the flames were being fanned by the stiff breeze. Staff from the wildlife trust (who own/manage the Cors Fochno nature reserve on the east of the line) were down there to keep an eye on things, to make sure the fire didn't spread to their land.

Yes great to see mainline steam at Aber again. I was going to say it must be the first visit of a Stanier 8F to Aberystwyth so interested to learn of the pair on a Royal train in the 50's outlined by David.

Short clip of the train leaving - not great quality as I only had my digital camera with me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2HA3N_h_y0

There were a few surprised watchers in our building too James!! One or two even said to me they had never seen a main line steam engine before!

The view from next door! Made a change from the usual diet of 158's.

Stormed through Prees at about 7:26pm - looked pretty amazing with the glint and huge, white smoke! Great Engine!

That's one stretch of line I'd currently give my eye-teeth to ride on, especially after through tours from Shrewsbury have been very few and far between recently. Wasn't the last one behind 7802 in 2003/2004?

It's a shame that the loco involved in the Cambrian trips isn't able to operate a couple of trains to Shrewsbury or Welshpool for the W&L at Weekends or possibly a one off after the Cambrian's have finished as I'm sure they'd sell well. The loco could be sent to Shrewsbury to be turned so as not to be tender first up Talerddig or even better one engine could bring the train down and another haul it back.

Saw the 8F/37 at Wakey K tonight.

Both departed in opposite directions at 23:25.

Vids to come.... the 37 made an almighty racket when it got about 1/2 mile away, completely drowning anything out,boy racers 8Fs you name it! Mind you an 8F with 1 coach hardly needs to be worked hard ;)
