    They don't;- the drivers on a Saint are verrrry close.

    When it comes down to it, frames are only bits of plate - there's no real point pratting about trying to change wheel spacings, when at the end of the day any idiot can knock a new set together.

    Did you happen to glean what the future holds for that set of frames given their removal to Rileys, and (alleged) onward movement elsewhere?

    Thanks

    I did not make any enquiries about the future of the frames. I will, however, endeavour to find out what the future holds for them.
    By the way, the cylinders have been taken off.

    Any ideas what the other 2 engines are opposite from the 8f behind the lines of coaches ? (the look like tender engines, but maybe a bit bigger than an 8f (comparing the sizes on the screen).

    Would love to see a turkish 8f come home, I agree they are probably knackered... they ran daily for 20 years longer than the ones we have in the UK ! I think the Iraqi 8f would be a very interesting project !

    Yep, so now there is no cylinders, no boiler, no cab, no tender and no wheels.

    And yet we are still going to see 48518 return to steam !

    Hmm, so where have the cylinders gone from 48518? Maybe for another UK 8F with a cracked block, like 48773?
    Surely not to be altered for the Patriot?

    8F= 18.5 x 28 cylinders

    Patriot= 18 x 26 cylinders

    ...Or am I just catching straws in the wind?

    lil Bear: Thanks for the info.

    As one 8F slowly dissappears, another makes progress towards active use. Have a look at the "latest news" posting of 6th March on the GWSR website, and there is a photo of the "Churchill 8F Group" loco, a Turkish import, looking ever more complete.

    If the cylinders have gone it really is futile to think about resurrecting it. Its only two longtitudinal plates held together with stretchers. Bit they are all corroded as well!

    Bye bye 48518. I don't think you are going to be here in 10 years....
