48624 was out for crew training and running in on 26th July with three miscellaneous coaches from the Reak Rail reserve collection; crews awaiting their training turn on the footplate could be seen riding the cushions; there seemed to be a lot more visitors than usual to the railway, though that could have been coincidence. Pen-Y-Gent was out celebrating its 50th anniversary, and I'd like to thank both the North Notts Loco group and Peak Rail for arranging this.

Any firm dates for when 48624 will actually be out pulling trains for the public?

We don't think it will be next out again on public trains until the first weekend in October.

October!! Is there a problem or are Peak Rail not giving you any work. Seriously you need to be adding to the kitty for the next overhaul/repair as soon as you are in ticket.

We just aren't getting the steamings and are looking into a remedy for this situation.

Wouldn't it be more profitable for you then if you put the loco up for hire until September? Then you could go back to Peak Rail with plenty of time for your next steamings there?

Can think of railways in East Lancashire and North Yorkshire that currently seem short of operational steam locos.

There is already interest from other railways in its current colour.
It is also not practical for railways to hire in locos just for a month as it costs approx £2000 for each move, and it is highly unlikely to make the money to cover this in just a month.

So go for a number of months,.. Santa season is approaching many lines need a big puller, if Peak Rail doesnt need an 8F.. go elsewhere, unless your all loaded with cash and dont need to worry about the finances !

Unfortunately it's not that simple.Due to the lack of running the loco is not yet run in,so we need to keep a close eye on it in order to iron out any problems.
It's not really on to hire out something that you cannot guarantee is going to perform consistently.

Its a shame that not everyone takes this approach with their engines, sending a loco out to a railway when it is not fit for traffic would not be on.

    Regards

It is good to see 8624 getting more days in steam and it will be interesting to find out if if it attracts more passengers, even at short notice.

Had an enjoyable few hours on the Peak Railway after finding traffic a bit slow on the A6 caught the first train of the day at Darley Dale instead of Rowsley headed to Matlock Riverside, a stroll around the town & caught the 14.15 to Rowsley captured shots of 8624 on its run around before returning to Darley Dale Station & the car. Decided to wait & phot the return train making a the day complete. 8624 was a pleasing sight & all the PR staff very friendly. Highly recommend a visit to the line.
