Here's hoping for a quick return for her.... she will be missed although hopefully her sister at carnforth will make an apperance at some stage in the future (when she is ready before anyone accuses me of stiring or any of the other accusations which seem to fly like confetti on here).

That would be fantastic as after 6023, 45699 is the remaining example of the 'well we will never see her steam' group.

i presume they have enough money to complete the overhaul, other wise they wouldnt take her out early, so hopefull even if its two to three years for the overhaul, its next 10 yrs could see it be in steam with "possibly" all three other jubs at the same time as bahamas plans for 2015 according to the website, and there seems to be talk about tysley thinking about kolhapur after clun. I have no idea about her sister at carnforth and will not pretend to know anything. although i would expect it to be done in those 10 years.

Actually, the article does not say 'serious' problems - just problems with the firebox which were discovered AFTER the last run on February 26th. The decision to overhaul a year early was made rather than 'repair and carry on.' Makes perfect sense to me.

Perhaps several new build V'2 clones s can be given colour enhanced smoke and do some fancy parallel running... what would you call them though...

Strange, all the videos on youtube must be of a different train.

:nono: Although some of us on Nat Pres maybe getting a bit ancient, we are not deaf, so there is no need to SHOUT, or we may well end up that way.

    Welcome to the forum.:D

Correct me if I'm wrong or if I've missed something, but isn't the technical term for the white smoke emitted by steam engines 'Steam'? And if black smoke is a problem, I'd look elsewhere for the cause that boiler or firebox problems. This fourteen years ago;I can assure everyone that there were no problems with the engine!

Out of interest, ivorwalliison, in your expert opinion, and knowing 5690 as well as you seem to do, could you explain to me how black smoke is an indicator of cracks in the firebox?

I went to the NRM the other weekend. None of the locos there had black smoke pouring out of them, they must all be in great health! Shame about the steam outline road train. That had some black smoke coming out of the exhaus.. The boiler on it must be buggered...

ivorwalliison has been banned due to 100% of their posts being very negative and extremely aggressive. Not what we want on this forum, other 3rd party posts may of been edited or removed because of the removal of ivorwalliison's posts.
    Apologies for this.

    Cheers
