I'm pleased it wasn't just me that thought there was something not quite right about the green it's been running in. That shot on the facebook page on 28 January of the cabside showing the original BR Green is telling.

That green is from the SVR repaint in 2000 I believe. The odd shade it's been running with was from the overhaul at Crewe 10 years later, along with the incorrect curve between green and black at the front.

There's a YouTube clip of it being loaded at Bury. It must say it looks magnificent.

I see that No.9 has finally departed to that retirement home for elderly worn out engines in Fife. The curtain finally came down on her main line career just two weeks before we all went into lockdown in March 2020. Here, under the shadow of York Minster, she patiently waits outside the NRM for Britannia to finish servicing. IMG_0026 copy.jpg

A few minutes later, No. 70000 vacates the NRM's North Yard leaving it free for the A4 to push back off the network for the very last time. IMG_0034 copy.jpg

Sad though the occasion was, the old girl has left many of us with a treasure trove of memories of her main line exploits spanning a preservation career of over 45 years - memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you John Cameron and the No.9 support team who looked after her so well over the years.

Under her own steam, maybe - she was towed to Bury by rail.

Not quite the same thing though when she is no longer moving under her own steam.

I envy Mr Cameron....he can get up every morning...and sit and look at his "love of his life"..apart from his wife, I might add. We are so lucky in the heritage railway movement to have this gentleman to share a large part of his life with us. I wish him well, I really do...

Steam Railway have a article with Mr Cameron outlining his time with his 2 loco's, might break a habit, and buy it!!!! 363354684_730656152402562_4325867526281114309_n.jpg

Many thanks for your post. So finally Mr Cameron has got his beloved engines where he can look at them everyday, and long, I hope he may do so. He has brought so much pleasure sharing his engines with we rail enthusiasts, I personally cannot thank him enough. I wish him well I really do..thank you....

I'd say it's worth a read, but I'm biassed as it were my photos alongside it! ;)

Having spent the afternoon with Mr C, chatting all things railways, it's admirable to see what his vision for the museum display is and it cuts through much more in person the weight behind his decisions.
