I believe the former Hornby factory at Margate has got listed status on it, certain the front has not so sure about the warehouse part.

I wonder what else is among the 30 items of rolling stock along with Bittern? At least the loco will eventuall be on display and I suspect that its a high contender to be overhauled once 60532 is complete whenever that may be.

Couldn't agree more - but I would be happy to see 60532 out and about until such time, it being an engine I have not seen running in preservation.

Agreed ! I am surprised as it was generally thought she may not need too much work to get her back with a new ticket. Don't they have a spare boiler for her too?

I believe so, although thinking about maybe Mr H has quite a few balls to juggle with at the moment? And much as we'd like to, there's only so many toys you can have out the box and play with at the same time.

...and better than having it lying outside with a tarp over it.

Yes Jeremy Hosking has a spare A4 boiler which used to be fitted to Flying scotsman before the NRM swapped for it the A3 boiler during the recent overhaul and the NRM sold it to JH.

With several locos in the queue for overhaul, one of them has to be at the back, and it makes sense for that one to be temporarily out of the way of the people carrying out the overhauls, and instead moved to where Joe Public will get a chance to see it. Let's just hope it reaches the front of the queue before too long. Meanwhile Union of South Africa should be pulling a few more trains before it gets plinthed, and Sir Nigel Gresley should be back in action some time.

Therefore the cup is half full.

Without disrespecting A4s, I should have thought a MN would be more useful and bring some variety to the IoS fleet while the A2 is flying the LNER flag.

That makes sense as I think we now have enough MNs available at the moment.

Naw, no plans announced for a coffee shop or soft play area (for enthusiasts 'having a moment' over the lack of locos!) ;):D:eek:

Bought it from the NRM - was used on Scotsman. This presumably means, if 4464 is pretty good mechanically, that the spare boiler could be overhauled with the loco still on display at Margate (which, when opened to the public, will need a 'big name' attraction) and then when done, get the rest back from Kent and 'plug and play'!

With respect to the strong Southern contingent on here, I would suggest that the A4s have a greater public appeal than certainly rebuilt MNs - an unrebuilt might capture the imagination, mind......!

Not denying that but A4s are my out and out favourites.
Presume you meant an unrebuilt might capture the imagination. If so, I concur most heartily.
