repainting her as silver link complete with valances in time for the anversary of Mallards run would be a good idea , is she due to run to york over the same week end as 4472 is launched? if she is now wouldnt that make a photo? 2509, 4472 and 4468 posed outside the NRM

Never seen an A4 in steam, my word Kieran your education is lacking, I hope you intend to rectify this omission soon.

I actually heard this rumour back in December. It would certainly be interesting if it was true. Only another month before we find out!

They'd have to drag Mallard back from Shildon though. I'd like to see 60019 back as 2509 as someone to young to have seen the loco like this (and not being born when it was built or when it was in service) maybe for the anniversary of the launch of the Silver Jubilee as well as 2509's record on the trip.

"Outrage as loco could be repainted from BR livery!"
"Outsiders threaten to strip the BR livery from an innocent loco and replace it with a livery from before the BR era"

But to get back to the thread topic, I really hope this story is true, to see an A4 in action in original form would be so brilliant! I would be there like a shot.

Quite honestly, no, it's not what it's "all about" in my opinion. What it is all about is preserving steam locomotion, with all its power, noise, smells, atmosphere, enjoyment, etc, and by that inspiring current and future generations to continue to love steam trains and keep them alive and thriving far into the future. Whether that's done with Hogwarts Castle, Thomas the Tank Engine, a red 8F or with Bittern running as 4464, that's what the number one priority should be. Having done that that, you can find the time and money for the photo charters, but without it you can't, and with authenticity alone you won't, it will die off along with the current crop of sixty-somethings.

They've just brought the last Belle trailer down from Dufftown for storage at Southall, so presumably its that.

At the request of several members a lot of completely off topic posts have been removed from this thread, at present it resides in a recycle bin awaiting a decision where to put it.
