As a footnote, there is a press release on the NYMR website, issued in advance of Scotsman's forthcoming visit to the NYMR. There is an appeal to visitors to behave responsibly, but also mentions that the delays to other traffic on the ECML on the 25th February amounted to 516 minutes, and have cost almost £60,000 in compensation. There is also an image in the press release showing the extent of dangerous trespass on the ECML.

Our legal system needs to find a way of prising that money out of the trespassers and back to the promoter.

I wonder, of all the photographs provided on this forum showing these idiots trespassing, how many of them have been identified and named and information sent to the BTP for prosecution?

What? The photos of random members of the public at the lineside. I'm sure the BTP will be able to recognise them all immediately. Or maybe they'll turn themselves in at the station?

And do BTP have the resources to track them all down anyway?

I'm sure they'll be added to their list, and prioritised accordingly ...

Even if identified, prosecuted and found guilty, the costs will be greater than the possible returns from fines. It would be much better to improve the education of occasional train watchers about risks and contemporary expectations of proper behaviour trackside.

You have to have a reasonable number of brain cells to be educated.

They'd be better off trying to run to timetable for a change than getting paranoid about visitors.
